Avionics Embedded Development Engineer

Why us?

POLARIS Raumflugzeuge GmbH develops innovative transportation systems that redefine access to space for payloads and passengers. We are continuing to expand our team and are looking to fill the position of Avionics Embedded Development Engineer (m/f/d).

Join our dynamic and fast-growing startup and be part of our exciting journey to revolutionize space transportation and hypersonics. We are a passionate team dedicated to pushing boundaries, fostering innovation, and creating impactful solutions that make a difference.

Your mission

You play a critical role in flight control computer development: its architecture, its software stack, and the interfaces that let the GNC algorithms run on it deterministically. You drive the FCC requirements through vendor-supplied or inhouse hardware, board bring-up, software integration and qualification, and manage the relationship with our suppliers.

  • Define the FCC architecture processor and SoC selection, redundancy topology, I/O provisioning, memory and throughput margin.
  • Manage FCC requirements, ICDs and design documentation, flowed down from vehicle- and mission-level requirements.
  • Bring-up FCC hardware: bootloaders, BSP, RTOSport(RTEMS, PikeOS, FREERTOS), device drivers, health monitoring, and watchdogs.
  • Develop the FCC software stack in C/C++: task scheduling and partitioning, timing, and worst case execution time (WCET) budgets, redundancy management, fault detection isolation, and recovery (FDIR).
  • Host and integrate the GNC stack navigation, guidance and control loops, hand-written or auto-coded, and characterise on target timing, numerics and closed loop performance.
  • Implement FCC I/O to sensors and actuators over MIL-STD 1553, ARINC 429, CAN, Ethernet, and other standard aerospace protocols.
  • Support in FCC verification and qualification activities: unit test, SIL, PIL, HIL.
  • Coordinate FCC vendor engagement - make versus buy trade-offs, request for quotation, and statement of work definition, design reviews, BSP, and certification deliverables, incoming acceptance testing, and lead-time risk.

Your profile

  • Degree in aerospace, electrical, electronics, software engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years developing embedded flight computers or comparable safety-critical real-time platforms.
  • Strong C/C++ programming and debugging skills in embedded environment.
  • Working understanding of flight dynamics and GNC fundamentals; state estimation, reference frames, control loop design, sampling, and discretisation effects.

Join us in shaping the future of space transportation and making a positive impact. If your profile fits our requirements, apply now by sending your complete application portfolio, including CV, certificates, and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are the ideal candidate for this role.
