Mechanical Supervisor – Data Centre
Location: Germany | Site-Based | Data Centre
The Role
Designer Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to join our project delivery team supporting a major data centre project in Germany.
This is a site-based position suited to an experienced Mechanical Supervisor, Mechanical Site Manager or mechanical trades professional who has progressed into supervision within M&E construction, data centres, mission-critical, industrial, pharmaceutical or large-scale commercial projects.
You will take responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of mechanical installation activities, coordinating directly employed teams and subcontractors while ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme and to the required quality standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supervise the day-to-day delivery of mechanical installation works on site.
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, engineering and project teams to achieve project milestones.
- Coordinate mechanical trades, direct labour and subcontractors.
- Monitor progress against the construction programme and escalate potential delays or constraints.
- Ensure safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements and relevant permits are in place before activities commence.
- Promote strong EHS standards and work closely with the project EHS team to close out observations and audit actions.
- Coordinate mechanical works with other MEP disciplines and the wider construction programme.
- Participate in daily site coordination and planning meetings with the main contractor and project stakeholders.
- Monitor workmanship and work with the Mechanical QA and Commissioning teams to maintain high installation standards.
- Drive a “snag as we go” approach and ensure punch-list items are closed efficiently.
- Monitor materials and coordinate draw-down requirements to ensure pipework, fittings, equipment and other materials are available when required.
- Ensure appropriate plant, equipment and access systems are being used correctly.
- Manage relevant mechanical permits to work, including hot works where applicable.
- Ensure subcontractors and operatives hold the appropriate site training, competency records and certification required for their activities.
- Maintain accurate site records and support project reporting.
- Support apprentices and less-experienced team members through effective site leadership and coaching.
- Maintain Designer Group standards, policies and procedures throughout project delivery.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years’ mechanical trade or construction experience.
- 2+ years’ experience in a Mechanical Supervisor, Mechanical Foreman, Mechanical Site Manager or similar supervisory position.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services installation.
- Experience supervising mechanical trades and subcontractors on active construction sites.
- Good understanding of construction safety, permit-to-work systems and site risk management.
- Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings, specifications and project documentation.
- Strong understanding of programme, quality and installation requirements.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with project management, engineering, QA, commissioning, EHS and other construction disciplines.
Experience working on data centres, mission-critical facilities, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, industrial or other technically complex MEP projects would be highly advantageous.
