Tasks and Qualifications:

Job Purpose

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and assemblies for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV). The role ensures that mechanical solutions are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant with applicable standards and customer requirements.

The engineer will collaborate closely with Electrical, Software, Systems, Manufacturing, and Quality, Fleet Management and Project Realisation teams to deliver innovative robotic solutions for industrial automation environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design the mechanical solution for new mobile robot platforms and their subassemblies.

  • Create 3D models, detailed drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing documentation.

  • Develop mechanical concepts aligned with functional, cost, reliability and manufacturability requirements.

  • Define and validate chassis, structures, traction systems, suspension, steering and protective systems.

  • Coordinate the mechanical integration of batteries, sensors, wiring, drives and electrical/electronic components.

  • Participate in prototyping, testing, validation and continuous design improvement.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing and procurement to ensure industrialisation and production feasibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, , Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a similar qualification.

  • Specialisation in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, industrial organisation and product development.

  • More than 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, product development or R&D.

  • Proven experience in mobile robotics, automation, mechatronic systems or autonomous platforms.

  • Experience in the design and development of chassis, structures, transmissions, suspension, steering, and the integration of sensors and batteries.

  • Experience across the full product development cycle: concept, CAD design, prototyping, testing, validation and transfer to manufacturing.

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in electronics, software, control and manufacturing.

  • Experience in technical leadership or responsibility for complex mechanical projects is an advantage.

Technical Knowledge

  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD tools: SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo or similar.

  • Strong knowledge of structural design, material selection, mechanical calculations, tolerances and GD&T.

  • Experience with simulation and analysis tools: FEA, dynamics, vibration, fatigue and thermal analysis.

  • Knowledge of locomotion systems for mobile robots: differential drive, Ackermann steering, skid-steer, omni/mecanum wheels and tracked systems.

  • Experience in integrating actuators, motors, gearboxes, bearings, sensors and mechanical protection systems.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes: CNC machining, sheet metal, welding, injection moulding and additive manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of testing, validation, failure analysis and design for manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of safety and robotics standards is desirable.

Languages

  • Spanish: Native or professional proficiency.

  • English: Minimum B1 level or equivalent, with the ability to:

  • Actively participate in technical meetings and conference calls.

  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, presentations, and engineering documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with international customers, suppliers, and engineering teams.
