Philips Intellectual Property & Standards (IP&S) is looking for an IP Counsel to support the Philips businesses. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise across trademarks, designs, copyright, brand protection, and commercial IP matters while working closely with some of Philips' most iconic consumer brands and products.

You will support a broad portfolio of innovations across a range of healthcare technology and consumer-focused domains.

As an IP Counsel, you will work closely with marketing teams, designers, and IP/legal colleagues to protect and strengthen Philips' brands, product designs, digital assets, and consumer-facing innovations worldwide.

You will become part of Philips Intellectual Property & Standards (IP&S), one of the world's leading in-house intellectual property organizations and work with an international team of IP professionals supporting Philips businesses globally, reporting to the IP manager of the respective businesses. The team combines expertise across trademarks, designs, copyright, patents, licensing, standards, and brand protection, providing an excellent environment for professional growth and continuous learning.

Your role:

As an IP Counsel within IP&S, you will:

  • Manage and support Philips' global trademark and design rights portfolio, including filing, prosecution, and enforcement activities.
  • Advise business and marketing teams on branding, product naming, advertising, packaging, marketing campaigns, and trademark/design-related risks and opportunities.
  • Support brand protection activities, including domain name enforcement, online monitoring, marketplace takedowns and offline enforcement actions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate trademark, copyright, design, coexistence, licensing, assignment, and settlement agreements.
  • Draft, review, and support negotiation of standard trademark, copyright, design, coexistence, licensing, assignment, and settlement agreements.
  • Coordinate with external counsel and intellectual property offices worldwide on trademark, design, copyright, and enforcement matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage and support disputes and proceedings before customs authorities, courts, and online platforms.
  • Monitor legal developments in trademark, copyright, design and translate them into practical guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with business, marketing, and design teams early in product development and go-to-market activities by providing practical IP advice and identifying opportunities to strengthen Philips' intellectual property position.
  • Provide (awareness) training and guidance to internal stakeholders and relevant authorities on trademark, design, copyright and brand protection topics.

You're the right fit if:

  • Master’s degree in law (LL.M.) or equivalent legal qualification.
  • 1–5 years of relevant experience in intellectual property law, preferably gained in private practice or in an in-house legal department.
  • Qualified trademark and/or design attorney or working towards such qualification.
  • Hands-on experience with trademark/design portfolio management, prosecution, or enforcement.
  • Good understanding of IP laws, particularly EU and/or US laws, regarding trademarks, designs, and copyright.
  • Ability to provide practical, business-oriented IP advice by assessing legal risks and balancing them with commercial objectives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken (minimum C1 level).
  • Team player with a positive, collaborative, and proactive mindset and a strong willingness to learn and grow.
  • Experience working with international teams and coordinating IP matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to deliver practical training and provide guidance to business teams and authorities (e.g. customs) on IP and brand protection matters.
