Senior Operations & Transformation Manager
- Corpay
- Auckland, New Zealand
- NZD 150,000 – NZD 190,000
Your role
The role leads the BAU Development team. This is a stewardship responsibility, not a ticket queue: the Senior Operations Manager is expected to treat BAU development capacity as a strategic resource, genuinely assess the business impact of each piece of work, prioritise root-cause fixes over recurring symptom patches, and push for the changes that permanently reduce demand on the team.
What you'll be doing
What We Need
Corpay is looking for a commercially minded and naturally inquisitive Senior Operations & Transformation Manager to lead our operational function and drive its next phase of transformation. Based in Ellerslie, this position sits within our Operations & Technology team and falls under our International Fleet – Vehicle Payments line of business.
Over the past two years, significant work has gone into strengthening the foundations of the function, for example, improving processes and reporting, renegotiating supplier arrangements and materially reducing costs. The opportunity now is to build on that platform.
This is not a role for someone who simply keeps operations running. We’re looking for a senior leader who will continually ask, “why are we doing this, what is driving it, and how could we do it better?” You’ll identify the issues creating operational effort, get underneath their root causes and lead the changes that permanently remove friction, cost and unnecessary work. That will mean identifying opportunities for automation and smarter use of technology and AI-enabled improvement. Initially within Operations and, over time, across the wider business. This is an opportunity to lead the next evolution of a critical operations function. From well-run to highly optimised, automated and increasingly intelligent.
For someone who enjoys solving complex operational problems, challenging established ways of working and using technology to build smarter and more scalable operations, this is an opportunity to have genuine impact.
How We Work
As the Senior Operations & Transformation Manager, you will be expected to work in a hybrid office environment. Corpay will set you up for success by providing:
- Assigned workspace in Auckland office
- Company-issued equipment
Role Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the role will include:
- Own the operational roadmap, identifying and prioritising the changes that will deliver the greatest business impact.
- Lead the day-to-day operational function across areas including payment operations, card management, distribution and transaction processing.
- Analyse operational issues and trends to understand their underlying drivers and solve problems at their source rather than repeatedly treating symptoms.
- Continually improve processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs and errors, strengthen controls and improve customer experience.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual work and make intelligent use of technology and AI.
- Lead and prioritise our BAU Development resource, assessing competing demands based on business impact, cost, risk, frequency and customer impact.
- Challenge incoming work constructively — including whether it needs to be done at all, whether a process change could eliminate it, and whether it belongs within BAU or a larger project.
- Build clear, evidence-based business cases for change and secure the resources required to deliver them.
- Lead operational transformation initiatives from problem identification through implementation and embedded change.
- Use reporting, metrics and analysis to provide context around operational performance and inform decision-making.
- Lead, develop and challenge a high-performing team, creating an environment where people are encouraged to question existing processes and find better ways of working.
- Work closely with Product, Technology and other business teams, as well as external partners and service providers, to deliver sustainable improvements.
- Maintain strong operational controls and actively identify and manage operational risk.
Qualifications & Skills
You’re likely to be an experienced operations leader who combines operational discipline with a transformation mindset. You don't wait for someone to identify the problem or tell you what to investigate. You notice patterns, ask questions, dig into the data and bring structure to ambiguity. When something repeatedly creates operational effort, your instinct is to understand why and determine how to remove it permanently.
You'll bring:
- Significant senior operations leadership experience, ideally gained within banking, payments, cards, fintech, financial services or another regulated transactional environment.
- A strong track record of personally identifying and delivering operational improvement and transformation initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with an ability to quickly identify operational drivers and investigate issues to root cause.
- Commercial judgement — you can quantify an issue, understand its business impact and make a compelling case for investment or change.
- Experience prioritising competing initiatives according to value, risk and impact rather than simply responding to the loudest request.
- Experience working closely with technology or development teams and enough technical literacy to have credible conversations about scope, effort and trade-offs.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to challenge constructively at all levels.
- An ability to remain calm, logical and structured when operating under pressure.
- The independence and judgement to take genuine ownership of a function without requiring continual direction.
- An interest in how automation, emerging technology and AI can fundamentally improve the way operational work gets done.
- Experience building scalable operating models, working in transformation environments or applying continuous-improvement methodologies such as Lean or Agile would be advantageous.
