Job Description

Our New Zealand IT team is on the search for an experienced and capable leader for a new opening of IT Superintendent. If you’re a passionate, strategic IT leader keen on a new challenge within the exciting mining industry, apply today!

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the role will be accountable for leading and continuously improving Information Technology services across OceanaGold New Zealand, ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient delivery of IT infrastructure, systems, telecommunications, and end-user support in compliance with OceanaGold Group Standards, policies, and cybersecurity requirements.

The position will provide strategic leadership to the New Zealand IT function, overseeing IT teams, projects and budgets while partnering with operational and Group stakeholders to support business objectives. Additionally, the role will be responsible for maintaining the resilience of critical technology systems, strengthening cybersecurity, standardising processes and controls, ensuring adherence to Group Standards, and driving continuous improvement across all New Zealand operations.

Based out of our Dunedin or Waihi offices, or from the Macraes mine site, this role works a 9-day fortnight structure - 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7:00-4:30pm daily. Travel to the other NZ sites will be required.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of responsive, reliable and customer-focused IT support services across New Zealand operations, establishing service levels, performance metrics and continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with Corporate IT.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, security and performance of IT infrastructure, systems, networks and communications technologies across Macraes, Waihi and the Dunedin office.
  • Oversee the administration and support of servers, storage, backup, CCTV, communications and end-user computing environments, ensuring appropriate operational coverage and resilience.
  • Act as the principal IT business partner for New Zealand operational stakeholders, maintaining a strong understanding of business needs and operational priorities.
  • Maintain regular engagement and on-site presence at Macraes and Waihi to understand operational challenges, identify technology opportunities and improve service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain the New Zealand IT strategy, technology roadmap and annual business plans, ensuring technology capabilities align with current and future business requirements.
  • Lead the planning, prioritisation and delivery of IT projects across New Zealand operations, including the successful implementation of Corporate IT technology initiatives.
  • Develop and manage New Zealand IT operating and capital budgets, procurement activities and technology vendor relationships.
  • Ensure effective governance, documentation and reporting across IT services, including infrastructure, processes, service performance, projects, budgets, cybersecurity and key risks.
  • Lead, coach and develop the New Zealand IT team, fostering a high-performing, customer-focused culture and ensuring resources are appropriately allocated to meet operational requirements.
  • Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, training, succession planning and cross-functional capability development to ensure continuity and resilience across critical IT services.
  • Forecast future technology and resource requirements, identifying opportunities to improve capability, efficiency, security and business outcomes across New Zealand operations.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline.
  • Current full New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • Relevant industry certifications (ITIL, Microsoft, Cisco, Cybersecurity, Project Management or equivalent) preferred.
  • Unrestricted New Zealand working rights / current working Visa is required for this role.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience within Information Technology environments.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing or leading IT teams.
  • Experience supporting complex operational or industrial environments, preferably within mining, heavy industry or remote operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure, networks, cybersecurity, telecommunications and business systems.
  • Proven experience in budget management, vendor management and project delivery.
  • Experience working across multiple sites and geographically dispersed teams.
