Wood is currently recruiting for a Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) to join the team for an immediate start, supporting construction activities on a major EPCM project for a key client project in Chonburi, Thailand. This role is offered as an initial 12-month contract with the opportunity to continue as an ongoing, longer-term assignment and available for Thai National.

Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, your immediate focus will be supporting the supporting construction activities on a major EPCM project for a key client. You will bring to life Woods' three-pillar strategy of Inspired Culture, Delivery Excellence and Profitable Growth on the project. Leading by example, you will consistently display and enforce Wood values and behaviour and commitment to the highest standards of safe and ethical behaviour to ensure safe, reliable operations and client satisfaction.

You will thrive on the challenge of balancing technical, team, client, and project leadership in this key site-based role with your focus on relationships and delivery, enabling you to anticipate project needs beyond the immediate scope. You will drive technical excellence and assurance on the painting and insulation portion while working in close partnership with other disciplines and the client, to enable robust technical decisions that ultimately add value to the client and project.

In addition, you will:

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and chair PSSR reviews
  • Ensure integration of PSSR with:
    • Commissioning priorities
    • Startup philosophy
    • SIMOPS (particularly critical for brownfield sites)

Technical & Safety Assurance

  • Verify that:
    • Systems are mechanically complete and fully tested
    • Safety-critical systems (ESD, F&G, relief systems) are operational and validated
    • Control systems, interlocks, and cause & effect functions are functional
  • Ensure that:
    • Hazard study actions (HAZOP, HAZID, SIL) are fully closed or formally deferred
    • Operating procedures are completed, reviewed, and approved
    • Emergency response and readiness plans are established and communicated

Brownfield-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage risks associated with:
    • Live plant interfaces and SIMOPS
    • Tie-ins and positive isolation requirements
    • Operational and space constraints
  • Coordinate closely with Operations to ensure safe system handover and startup alignment

Leadership & Management

  • Lead and manage a team of PSSR Coordinators and discipline engineers
  • Interface with:
    • Project Management
    • Owner
    • Operations
  • Resolve critical issues and approve justified deviations
  • Provide formal go/no-go recommendation for system startup

Governance & Reporting

  • Monitor and report overall PSSR status across all systems / priorities

  • Provide readiness updates to management and stakeholders

  • Ensure full audit trail, documentation completeness, and compliance

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in:

    • Commissioning and startup
    • Refinery or petrochemical projects
  • Proven experience in:

    • Leading PSSR activities
    • Startup of major process systems
    • Brownfield project execution
  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Process Safety Management (PSM)
    • International standards (e.g., OSHA PSSR principles, API, IEC)
  • Prior leadership and team management experience

  • Strong leadership and decision-making capability

  • In-depth understanding of process safety principles

  • Ability to manage high-risk and time-critical environments

  • Effective stakeholder management (owner, operations, safety)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills under pressure
