Geotechnical Technician

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Geotechnical Engineer to ensure Company interests are upheld
  • Conduct daily inspections of active underground headings and stopes
  • Conduct daily pit, dump, and sump inspections and reporting
  • Perform geotechnical core logging of diamond drill cores and update the geotechnical database
  • Conduct geotechnical mapping of underground development headings and open pit batter faces, including data processing
  • Supervise scaling activities in open pit mines to ensure proper execution and berm crest protection
  • Ensure adherence to geotechnical SOPs and all relevant Company procedures
  • Conduct pre‑stope inspections for stope note input
  • Install ground movement monitoring systems and record instrumentation data
  • Assist with ground support designs
  • Assist with paste‑fill designs and paste‑fill QAQC test work
  • Conduct open pit pre‑blast and post‑blast assessments and supervise geotechnical drilling activities
  • Perform laser scanning, track seismic and slope stability radar data trends, and maintain the rock noise database
  • Ensure daily/weekly sharing of tracking sheets and inspection reports
  • Assist with routine short‑term numerical modelling for ground conditions and slope stability assessments
  • Assist the Geotechnical Engineer with monthly underground dilution database updates
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly geotechnical performance review reports (development, stope, cable bolt, slope stability)
  • Provide weekly updates of the Geotechnical Section Work Plan
  • Maintain adequate stocks of ground support consumables
  • Conduct QAQC of installed ground support units (pull testing and extensometer monitoring)
  • Promote health and safety in the workplace
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and Company policies
  • Perform upward reporting as required

Qualification requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.

Experience and Competencies needed

  • Minimum 1 - 2 years’ experience in an underground or open pit mining environment.
  • Valid Tanzania driving licence and ability to drive a manual transmission light vehicle.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical or mine design software is an added advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of mine design and geotechnical investigation methods.
  • Ability to collect logging, mapping and monitoring data for open pit and underground projects
  • Proficient in the preparation of concise and accurate inspection reports and memos.
  • Ability to update tracking sheets and geotechnical databases
  • Teamwork and adaptability working with mining and drilling crews and technical staff
  • Comfortable with field work, working outside in all weather conditions including underground.
