Due to anticipated growth resulting from a strong pipeline of work being secured, we are currently looking to engage a Senior Sustainability Consultant to join our Perth team.

We are looking for someone that is a natural leader, and it interested to be involved across all aspects of sustainability consultancy from supporting and integrating into a high performance local and national team, leading strategic bids and business development activities, as well as high level conceptual project strategies, to delivering against defined requirements and verifying performance outcomes in operation. This candidate would also have demonstrated experience in project leadership, project management, financial management and people management skills in a sustainability or other consulting field.

The WSP Sustainability team is globally synonymous for prolific creativity and innovation. We have dedicated Sustainability teams established in some of the world's most progressive marketplaces for sustainable buildings and infrastructure.

Our Australian team consists of 40+ consultants, and we come from a diverse background including engineers, architects, renewable energy specialists, environmental scientists and economists. We work across all WSP’s sectors including supporting programs such as Westport and Perth Airport – Airport Central Precinct development, and projects spanning new roads, new rail, new stations, water and urban precinct renewals. Our consultants work across small and large projects nationally, with a wide variety of work to support our clients, including private, government, not for profits and institutional.

Key responsibilities – What you’ll do

  • Advising clients on best practice sustainability outcomes through delivery of rating tools, such as Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s IS Ratings and Green Building Council’s Green Star Ratings.
  • Applying a deep understanding of sustainability/ESD principles to solve complex problems, particularly on decarbonisation of infrastructure assets;
  • Undertaking technical sustainability assessments, including climate change and resilience, energy, carbon and water modelling.
  • Leading cross-discipline coordination to ensure sustainability integration in design outcomes, as well as implementation of treatment and adaptation measures;
  • Providing leadership and management of deliverables for medium and large-scale projects;
  • Contributing to the development and expertise of our Perth Team to achieve high-performance outcomes for our people, projects and clients;
  • Contributing to and guiding project planning, project management, budgeting and controls;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients;
  • Establishing and maintaining WSP’s leadership position in the Perth Sustainability Sector;
  • Producing, reviewing and QA’ing designs and reports to meet client requirements for projects, and;
  • Leading and delivering client meetings and workshops.

About You - Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent sustainability related discipline;
  • 6+ years’ industry experience as a Sustainability Consultant or similar role, preferably in the infrastructure sector;
  • Experience with best practice certification schemes, such as ISC IS ratings, with Green Star preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in project leadership on small and medium scale sustainability focused projects.
  • Experienced with guiding, reviewing and undertaking technical analysis covering various aspects of sustainability, such as, energy, water and waste modelling; climate resilience and life-cycle analysis.
  • Ability to use complex theoretical knowledge and experience of engineering/scientific principles to analyse, interpret and conclude project requirements and challenges;
  • Passionate about developing solutions for a low carbon, sustainable built environment, and;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
