Are you willing to be responsible for the optimisation of the Engie French Hydro and Thermal power assets?

Then this job is for YOU.

For the French Short-Term Optimisation Desk, within the Algo Optim & Trading Hydro & Thermal (AOTHT) team of ENGIE Supply & Energy Management, we are currently looking for a Power Asset Optimiser (F/M/X) based in Brussels.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES as Power Asset Optimiser

As a Power Asset Optimiser, you will contribute to the optimisation of ENGIE's French hydro and thermal asset portfolio. Your role combines operational market activities and strategic project work to continuously improve portfolio performance and optimisation capabilities.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Asset Optimisation & Market Operations (approximately 50%)

  • Forecast and optimise hydro and thermal asset production across short- and mid-term power markets.
  • Define and submit bidding strategies on energy markets, taking ownership of market offers.
  • Monitor and optimise the performance of a diversified portfolio of French hydro and thermal assets.
  • Develop a deep understanding of asset technical constraints and ensure they are properly reflected in optimisation models.
  • Analyse market fundamentals and integrate them into operational decision-making.
  • Critically assess optimisation algorithms and challenge their outputs when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with market regulations, bidding policies and risk mandates.

Projects & Continuous Improvement (approximately 50%)

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of optimisation methodologies and trading strategies.
  • Design and implement algorithms to strengthen asset optimisation and support operational decision-making.
  • Collaborate with weather experts to improve forecasting models and inflow predictions.
  • Analyse portfolio performance and identify opportunities to increase asset valuation.
  • Support valuation and pricing activities related to new contracts and asset acquisitions.
  • Contribute to the review of hedging strategies and risk management frameworks.
  • Manage and optimise adjacent products such as capacity certificates and guarantees of origin.
  • Participate in automation initiatives aimed at reducing time-to-market and increasing operational efficiency.

Research shows that men apply when they meet 60% of the requirements while women only apply when they are convinced they meet 100%. Don't let that hold you back, we'd love to hear from you!

YOUR PROFILE as Power Asset Optimiser:

  • You hold a Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Finance or a related field.
  • You are fluent in French and English.

  • You demonstrate initiative and enjoy taking ownership of projects and operational decisions.
  • You possess strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

You will join a team responsible for optimising:

  • 750 MW of hydro assets across 9 French valleys, from three years ahead to intraday operations.
  • 1.7 GW of thermal assets (5 CCGTs) participating in short-term power and ancillary services markets.

The position combines operational shift activities with project-based work.

Shifts may include:

  • Early shifts operating seven days per week, including weekends.
