Project Manager

  • north.io
  • Kiel, Germany
  • €60,000 – €80,000

Your mission

north.io builds and operates the Ocean Data Platform (ODP) and the Ocean Data Processing Engine (ODPE) — together an Ocean Data Warehouse that lets maritime, defence and public-sectororganisations manage and process geospatial and sensor data at scale.

The projects that deliver these systems to customers are getting larger. Software, hardware and customer operations arrive in the same plan, and that plan has to hold. We are building up our PMO and rolling out one delivery process across all customer projects — defined phases, defineddecision points, defined artefacts.

As Project Manager (F/M/D) you take one customer project at handover and carry it to acceptance. You plan it, you steer it, and you are the person the customer calls when somethingmoves.

Reporting line: You report to the Chief Project Management Officer (CPMO).

Location: Kiel. Hybrid working, with customer visits as the project requires.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take over a customer project at handover from Sales and run it through to final acceptance and transition into operations.
  • Build a project plan that reflects reality — schedule, resources, budget — and keep it currentwhen reality changes.
  • Lead your project team professionally. There is no disciplinary reporting line into this role.
  • Prepare and run the decision points of your project: handover, release, acceptance. Each oneneeds a decision and a document. You deliver both.
  • Manage change orders. Additional work happens on the basis of an order, not on goodwill.
  • Escalate early. A risk you report three weeks before it lands is a decision; the same risk on the day it lands is damage.
  • Keep project data accurate — status, effort, forecast. This data feeds our weekly deliveryreporting and the monthly report to the leadership team. If it is wrong, we steer wrong.
  • Be the operational counterpart for your customer's project management, including in the conversations nobody enjoys.
  • Feed what you learn in the project back into our delivery process — where it works and where it does not.

Your profile

We shape the role around the person. Three years of project experience or ten decides whichprojects you get, not whether we talk.

Qualifications & Experience

  • You have carried responsibility for projects with external customers — not supported them, carried them.

  • You can build a project plan that survives contact with a real project, and you keep it currentagainst resistance.

  • You see the commercial consequence: what a delay costs, what a scope increase costs, who pays for it.

  • You write clearly. A decision that is not documented did not happen.

  • German and English, both fluent. Our team works in English; a large part of our customers do not.

  • A security clearance (Sicherheitsüberprüfung nach SÜG) may be required for this position and therefore your eligibility is a key criteria.

Desired Competencies

  • Experience in projects that combine software and hardware.
  • Working knowledge of Asana or comparable tooling.
  • Familiarity with geospatial, hydrographic or oceanographic data is optional.

What this role is not

  • Not a process role. The delivery process is owned by the PMO. You work inside it and learn it on the project — you are not the one introducing it.
  • Not a reporting job. If you like building status slides but avoid the conversation behind them, this will not work.

Why us?

  • Hybrid Working — home office or our Kiel office, your call.
  • Extended Holidays — 30 days of annual leave.
  • Pet-friendly Office.
  • Equipment you actually want to work with.
  • Salary: €60,000–80,000 gross per year, depending on experience and the projects you takeon.
  • The stability of an established pioneer in geospatial and ocean data management combinedwith the energy and drive of a start-up culture.
  • Short paths to the leadership team. An escalation here does not take three weeks.

Our hiring process

Application → 1st Interview (Teams call with People & Culture) → 2nd Interview (your future teamlead and colleagues) → Decision, no later than two weeks.
