Asset Management – Japan Client Service – Associate

This is a newly created growth position within J.P. Morgan Asset Management's Japan Client Service team, supporting the continued expansion of our institutional and funds business. Our Client Service, Sales, and Investment Specialist teams work collaboratively and leverage the full capabilities of our global firm to meet the diverse investment and servicing needs of our clients.

As an Associate in the Client Service team, you will support the delivery of a seamless and globally consistent client experience for Asset Management in Japan. You will partner with Sales and Investment Specialists as part of an integrated coverage team and coordinate across Japan and global stakeholders to execute onboarding, servicing, and client requests with high accuracy and responsiveness. You will report to the Head of Client Service, Japan. You will bring a solutioning mindset, helping the team translate client needs into practical, scalable outcomes through process review and standardization, disciplined issue management, and the thoughtful adoption of digital servicing capabilities, including automation and AI-enabled tools where appropriate.

This role offers broad exposure to institutional and funds clients, a diverse range of investment products, and global stakeholders. Job responsibilities

  • Support client coverage for institutional and funds clients across various asset classes, including Alternatives, helping to deliver a seamless and globally consistent client experience. Serve as a key point of contact for assigned servicing activities, coordinating responses and ensuring timely, accurate execution with appropriate oversight from senior team members.
  • Coordinate the client lifecycle, including onboarding, ongoing servicing, and client-impacting changes, by coordinating internal stakeholders, tracking deliverables, and maintaining clear and disciplined documentation.
  • Partner with Sales, Investment Specialists, global teams, and internal departments (Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Product) to deliver integrated client service and drive the resolution of client queries and issues. Maintain clear ownership of next steps, timelines, and communications.
  • Escalate client-impacting issues, regulatory changes, and business changes promptly and appropriately, ensuring key stakeholders are informed and actions are tracked to completion.
  • Contribute to process review and standardization initiatives to reduce rework, improve turnaround times, and strengthen controls. Identify recurring client pain points and propose practical solutions, including improvements to templates, playbooks, knowledge materials, and operating routines.
  • Promote and contribute to the adoption of the firm’s digital servicing capabilities to drive service scalability and consistency. Contribute to innovative ways of working, including automation and AI-enabled tools where appropriate, to improve accuracy, responsiveness, and knowledge reuse.
  • Support a robust risk and control environment by maintaining disciplined issue logging, capturing root causes where relevant, and supporting preventative actions to reduce repeat events and improve control effectiveness.
  • Coordinate drafting and review of client documentation and agreements (in Japanese and English) by coordinating inputs, tracking approvals, and working with guidance from Legal and Compliance teams.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 4+ years of experience in Asset Management, ideally in a client-facing or client service role supporting institutional and/or funds clients in Japan, or in a closely related role with strong client servicing exposure. Demonstrated ability to execute across multiple stakeholders, manage deadlines, and maintain high standards of quality and accuracy in a client servicing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English, with the ability to synthesize client needs into clear internal asks and actionable next steps.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the maturity to operate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, responsiveness, and flexibility, with the ability to contribute beyond core responsibilities while maintaining appropriate prioritization.
  • Sound judgment in risk management, escalation, and prioritization.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with comfort using digital tools to improve service delivery and a willingness to learn and apply automation or AI-enabled capabilities in day-to-day workflows.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Familiarity with asset management products and services, and awareness of Japanese financial regulations and market practices. Understanding of common client servicing touchpoints and lifecycle events across institutional and funds client types.
  • Experience contributing to process improvement, standardization, or operating model enhancements in a servicing, onboarding, operations, or middle-office-adjacent environment.
  • Exposure to digital transformation or automation initiatives (for example, workflow automation, low-code tools, data/digital onboarding tool improvements, or AI-enabled knowledge management), with the ability to translate ideas into practical implementation steps in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting drafting and review processes for client-facing documentation and agreements in partnership with Legal and Compliance teams.
