ESHS Specialist – Renewable Energy Projects

  • Review project documents, permits, ESHS management plans and procedures, risk assessments, method statements, against the requirements of international standards (IFC PS, EP4, ADB environmental and Social Standards (ESS), EBRD PRs, etc.).

  • Conducting environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) against the requirements of good international industry practice (GIIP), including IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Group EHS Guidelines, Equator Principles, and relevant ISO standards where applicable.

  • Assess key risks and prepare ESHS input for technical due diligence, lender’s technical advisory, owner’s engineer, and project monitoring reports for Renewables projects.

  • Review project compliance with applicable local ESHS laws, environmental permit conditions, occupational safety requirements, and construction regulations.

  • Ability to assess key environmental risk such as biodiversity, climate change risk, birds and bats etc.

  • Ability to assess key social risk such as cultural heritage, grievance, resettlement, shadow flicker and noise, etc.

  • Assess contractor and subcontractor EHS management systems, project-specific ESHS management plans and monitoring records

  • Conduct ESHS monitoring during construction and operational phases

  • Identify key ESHS risks during development, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.

  • Review contractor compliance with ESHS plans, permit-to-work systems, lock-out/tag-out procedures, lifting plans, working-at-height controls, traffic management plans, emergency response procedures, and incident reporting processes.

  • Provide clear, practical recommendations to improve project ESHS performance and reduce lender, developer, and contractor risk exposure.

  • Monitor close-out of ESHS findings, observations, and non-conformities.

  • Coordinate with developers, lenders, EPC contractors, subcontractors, site owners, local authorities, and internal technical teams.

  • Participate in client meetings, site meetings, workshops, and risk review sessions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management Occupational Health and Safety, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Engineering degree or related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant ESHS experience, preferably in renewable energy, power, infrastructure, construction, utilities, or industrial projects.

  • Practical experience in conducting construction E&S monitoring, site safety inspections and contractor management.

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically, analyze and summarize diverse sources and draw conclusions from limited data.

  • Familiarity with applicable local EHS regulations and permitting requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Local language capability is an advantage.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely on complex E&S issues in spoken and written form

  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team, work effectively in and influence a team, and network effectively across boundaries.

  • Experience working with IFC/World Bank/E&S Policies and Standards.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in lender’s technical advisory, owner’s engineer, independent engineer, technical due diligence, or construction monitoring assignments.
  • Consultancy background is preferred.
