Communications Manager, Nature

Major Function

The Bezos Earth Fund is accelerating progress toward a more equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient world. We are seeking a Communications Manager to support its nature portfolio, which spans conservation, species recovery, landscape restoration, and food systems transformation. This person should be a seasoned communications professional with experience developing integrated communications plans that can reach several different audiences, shaping narratives, and producing high-quality communications materials. They should be able to dive deeply into complex subject matters, think creatively, and identify compelling stories across a broad grant portfolio to deliver results across various channels – including press, events, social, and emerging channels. They should feel comfortable and have proven experience working with media, influencers, and other advocates to reach audiences where they are.

The Communications Manager will work closely with program colleagues and grantee partners, helping tell a coherent story about the Bezos Earth Fund’s nature work across individual grants and initiatives, as well as broader stories about the areas in which Bezos Earth Fund is working. They should be able to provide counsel to senior leaders, be comfortable staffing leadership at events, during interviews, or other activities. This person should be able to work autonomously while collaborating closely with colleagues and external partners. The role requires strong judgment, attention to detail, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.

The Communications Manager will report to the Head of Communications for the Nature Portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute communications plans for the Nature Portfolio, identifying key milestones, storytelling opportunities, and communications needs around major convenings.
  • Actively work with media to land interviews, develop stories and drive positive press around our work.
  • Develop messaging that translates complex scientific and programmatic work to the Bezos Earth Fund’s broader mission.
  • Draft and edit briefing documents, talking points, web and social copy, and other communications materials.
  • Develop creative briefs and collaborate with agency partners through ideation, production, review, and approval for videos and assets to be used on social or other channels, ensuring that deliverables accurately reflect the work and align with communications objectives.
  • Participate in program and grantee meetings to anticipate communications needs and surface content opportunities across the grant portfolio.
  • Develop mechanisms and processes to work with grantees that help gather stories to shape communications plans. Help sustain a regular cadence of owned content (i.e. social media, website) that highlights Bezos Earth Fund work and impact in this area.
  • Provide counsel and meet regularly with program leads to help shape plans and activity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 7+ years of experience working in communications.
  • Proven ability to think big and deliver results that build awareness and understanding among priority audiences.
  • Proven experience developing and executing integrated communications plans.
  • Proven experience working with press across national, broadcast, and/or trade.
  • Professional working proficiency in at least one of the following languages is required: Spanish, Portuguese, or French.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May require extended and/or weekend hours for urgent issues or to meet established deadlines.
  • This position is hybrid and based in Washington, D.C.
  • Domestic and international travel may be required.

Salary Range: $140,000 to $165,000
