Painter & Polisher

A Painter & Polisher at Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre is responsible for maintaining the appearance, condition and finish of the hotel’s interior and exterior surfaces, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The role plays an important part in maintaining the property to the high standards expected of a luxury Forbes Five-Star hotel and ensuring an exceptional environment for our guests and Team Members.

What will I be doing?
A Painter & Polisher is responsible for carrying out painting, polishing, varnishing, surface preparation, touch-up, and minor decorative repair works throughout the hotel. The role ensures that guest rooms, suites, public areas, meeting spaces, back-of-house areas, furniture, fixtures, and other hotel assets are maintained to the required aesthetic and quality standards. Specifically, you will be responsible for:
• Carry out painting, touch-up, varnishing and polishing works throughout the hotel, including guest rooms, suites, public areas, meeting rooms, back-of-house areas, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling and repairing minor imperfections prior to painting or finishing.
• Mix and match paints and finishing materials to maintain consistency with approved property colour schemes and specifications.
• Apply paints, varnishes, stains and other finishing materials using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other appropriate equipment.
• Perform polishing and refinishing works on wooden furniture, doors, frames, fixtures and other applicable surfaces.
• Carry out minor repairs to painted and finished surfaces, including scratches, chips, cracks, dents and other visible defects.
• Inspect assigned areas and identify painting, polishing and finishing requirements, reporting significant defects to the Engineering Supervisor / Engineering Manager.
• Support preventive maintenance activities across guest rooms, public areas, meeting rooms and back-of-house areas.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and complete assigned painting and polishing works within the required timeframe.
• Maintain a consistently high standard of workmanship, cleanliness and presentation across all completed works.
• Protect furniture, fixtures, flooring, equipment and other surfaces while carrying out painting, polishing and maintenance activities.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling paints, chemicals, solvents and related materials.
• Handle, store and dispose of paints, chemicals and other materials in accordance with hotel procedures and safety requirements.
• Keep tools, equipment and work areas clean, organised, safe and in good working condition.
• Assist with Engineering projects, renovations, refurbishments and other departmental initiatives as required.
• Coordinate with Engineering colleagues and other hotel departments to minimise disruption to hotel operations and the guest experience.
• Maintain a professional and courteous approach when carrying out works in guest-facing areas and interact appropriately with guests when required.
• Respond to and assist in building, equipment or systems emergency situations involving the Engineering and Maintenance department, as required.
• Maintain effective communication with colleagues and internal customers regarding maintenance requirements and the progress of assigned works.
• Contribute to the achievement of Engineering departmental objectives and the maintenance of the property in line with Waldorf Astoria and Forbes Five-Star standards.
• Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Engineering Leaders.

To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow:
• Diploma or relevant qualification in Engineering or a related technical field
• Previous experience in a similar Multi-Skilled Technician or Engineering role within a luxury hotel environment
• Previous experience in property management or building maintenance
• Positive attitude and a proactive approach to work
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong commitment to delivering high levels of service
• Excellent grooming and professional standards
• Flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond effectively to a range of different work situations
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and service

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:
• Previous experience within a luxury or Forbes Five-Star hotel environment
