War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, iREAP Day Rehabilitation program, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, and day centre program, 24-hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. We are seeking experienced, hardworking and reliable casual staff to join our team at War Memorial Hospital across Catering and Cleaning services.
Working in the beautiful grounds and heritage buildings of War Memorial Hospital, you will play an important role in supporting patients, staff and the day-to-day operation of the hospital.
Casual Catering Positions
• Prepare and provide nutritious meals for patients in accordance with dietician assessments, dietary requirements and hospital food safety standards.
• Assist with food preparation, meal service and kitchen duties.
• Ensure meals are prepared, presented and delivered with care, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Follow food safety, hygiene and infection control procedures.
• Work as part of a friendly and supportive catering team.
• Previous hospital, aged care, healthcare or commercial catering experience is highly regarded.
• Applicants must be hardworking, reliable and have excellent attention to detail.
Casual Cleaning Positions
• Provide a high standard of cleaning and hygiene throughout the hospital environment.
• Clean patient areas, offices, public areas and other hospital facilities.
• Follow hospital cleaning, infection control and safety procedures.
• Maintain a high standard of presentation and cleanliness at all times.
• Work independently while also contributing to a supportive team environment.
• Previous hospital, healthcare, commercial or professional cleaning experience is highly regarded.
• Applicants must be hardworking, reliable and take pride in their work.
Flexible Hours
• Catering evening shifts: 4:00pm – 8:00pm
◦ Short shifts ideal for students, parents or those looking for additional work.
• Full shifts: 7:00am – 3:30pm
• Casual shifts are available depending on operational requirements.

Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience as a Hospital Assistant or similar position within a Food or Environmental services area
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of food safety, handling and hygiene procedures with relevant certificate or willingness to attain same or Demonstrated knowledge and experience of hospital cleaning standards and processes
- Good standard of verbal, written and electronic communication skills with ability to communicate amongst all levels and departments within the hospital
- Demonstrated ability to work well Supervised, within a team and also independently following schedules and instructions
- Previous experience or desire to work in an aged care environment
- Knowledge and experience or willingness to learn in a retail food service environment (food Services Role)
- Ability and availability to work across a 7-day rotating roster
- Awareness of Work Health Safety & Infection Control principles.
All Category A NSW Health workers are required to have received an annual seasonal Influenza vaccination or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. COVID-19 vaccinations are strongly recommended for all NSW Health workers.
