Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Lead Business Partner

Due to continued growth, Symons Clark Logistics is looking for a passionate Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Lead Business Partner to join our Health, Safety & Environment team in a full-time permanent role.

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Lead Business Partner is responsible for leading day-to-day HSE business partnering activities and partnering with operational leaders to deliver the organisation's HSE strategy, compliance obligations and continuous improvement objectives.

Working closely with the HSE Manager, this role supports the implementation of strategic, governance and compliance objectives across the organisation while also leading and supporting the HSE Business Partnering team. This includes mentoring, coaching, and building capability within the role to ensure effective delivery of HSE services and alignment with business objectives.

What you will be doing…

• Lead the HSE Business Partnering function and support the HSE Manager in delivering the organisation’s HSE strategy, objectives and priorities.
• Work closely with operational leaders to identify organisational risks, influence decision-making and embed HSE considerations into business planning and operational strategy.
• Coach, mentor and influence leaders and employees to strengthen safety leadership, accountability, risk awareness and injury prevention across the business.
• Provide trusted advice on WHS legislation, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), regulatory requirements and internal HSE policies and standards.
• Provide oversight of serious and complex incidents, near misses, workplace injuries, risk assessments and investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are effectively implemented.
• Partner with the Systems Manager to continuously improve the HSE Management System, governance frameworks, policies, procedures and compliance processes.
• Oversee workplace inspections, compliance audits and contractor/supplier HSE assurance, identifying opportunities to reduce risk and improve operational performance.
• Analyse HSE trends, incident data, audit outcomes and lead/lag indicators to identify emerging risks and provide clear, actionable insights to leadership.
• Develop and implement HSE campaigns, change initiatives and improvement programs that align with business strategy and deliver measurable outcomes.
• Establish trusted relationships across operations, drivers, employees, contractors, suppliers and external stakeholders, while supporting effective regulatory engagement and communication.

Do you have…

• Strong experience in a similar HSE business partnering role, ideally within the transport or logistics industry.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive organisational change.
• Demonstrated experience managing competing priorities across multiple operational sites.
• Extensive knowledge of WHS legislation, CoR, and HVNL requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply legislation.
• Proven experience leading complex incident investigations, risk assessments and compliance audits.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
• Highly developed report writing, governance and organisational skills.
• Tertiary Qualifications in HSE or related field highly desirable.
