Senior Electrical & Electronic Engineer

Great engineers build great technology. Great senior engineers also build the capability around them.

Silentium Defence is seeking a Senior Electrical & Electronic Engineer who can combine deep technical expertise with mentoring, collaboration and technical leadership.

You’ll be a trusted senior member of our Hardware Team, helping deliver complex electronic systems while supporting the continued growth and maturity of our Electrical & Electronic Engineering capability.

This isn’t a role that takes you away from engineering.

You’ll remain hands-on with design, development, integration, verification and troubleshooting while also helping other engineers grow, supporting technical decision-making and working with the Hardware Team Lead to coordinate engineering priorities.

Your impact

You’ll help us deliver robust, maintainable and scalable electronic systems while raising the technical capability of the team around you.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical leadership across Electrical & Electronic Engineering activities.
  • Leading complex electronic hardware and subsystem design and development.
  • Mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Supporting the Hardware Team Lead with technical priorities, workload coordination and task allocation.
  • Reviewing engineering outputs and providing constructive technical feedback.
  • Guiding engineering decisions through analysis, trade studies and risk assessment.
  • Supporting requirements development, design, integration, verification and validation.
  • Helping resolve technical blockers and complex engineering problems.
  • Improving engineering processes, tools, standards and ways of working.
  • Supporting configuration management, design governance and requirements traceability.
  • Working closely with Systems, Firmware, Software, Mechanical, Test, Production and Project teams.
  • Supporting product development, production transition and design sustainment.
  • Providing technical support during field trials, demonstrations and customer activities.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be an experienced engineer who is technically credible, approachable and comfortable taking responsibility for complex engineering outcomes.

You’ll have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years’ electrical/electronic engineering experience within product design and development.
  • Strong analogue, digital and mixed-signal design experience.
  • Experience with electronic subsystem integration, verification, validation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong engineering judgement and structured problem-solving capability.
  • Experience with engineering governance, requirements traceability and configuration management.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching and developing engineers.
  • The ability to coordinate technical activities and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to share knowledge.

Highly regarded

We’d particularly like to hear from you if you have experience within:

·

  • Defence, aerospace, radar or communications.
  • RF, high-speed digital or embedded electronics.
  • Complex or high-assurance product development environments.
  • Engineering technical leadership or team leadership.
  • Product industrialisation or transition into production.
  • Technical risk, resource or engineering schedule management.

Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance would also be highly regarded.

Why this role?

You’ll have the opportunity to influence more than an individual design.

You’ll help shape engineering decisions, strengthen processes, mentor other engineers and contribute to the capability of a growing Hardware Team — while continuing to solve challenging technical problems yourself.

At Silentium Defence, our technology has a purpose: to protect those that matter.

If you’re ready to bring your technical expertise, leadership and engineering rigour to a team developing advanced passive radar technology, we’d love to hear from you.
