About the opportunity

The Systems Manager, Simulations provides specialist technical expertise supporting the operation, reliability, security and continuous improvement of the Centre for Maritime Simulations' technology infrastructure and simulation systems.

The position is responsible for administering and maintaining complex simulation environments, including Linux and Windows operating systems, networking infrastructure, server and storage platforms, simulation hardware, visual systems, and specialised maritime simulation software. The role ensures simulation facilities remain operationally ready to support teaching, research, commercial activities and industry engagement across a diverse range of maritime simulation technologies.

Working within a highly specialised maritime simulation environment, the Systems Manager, Simulations provides expert technical support and advice, contributes to infrastructure planning and capability development, develops operational procedures and technical documentation, and works collaboratively with staff, clients, industry partners and technology vendors to maximise the effectiveness, reliability and availability of the University's simulation capability.

The role requires advanced technical expertise, initiative, sound judgement and a strong commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement. What you’ll do:

  • Maintain and optimise the technology that powers our world-class maritime simulation facilities.
  • Administer and support Linux, Windows, virtualised and networked systems, ensuring reliable day-to-day operations.
  • Prepare, configure and troubleshoot simulation environments supporting teaching, research and industry training activities.
  • Drive best-practice system governance through technical documentation, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with staff, students, industry clients and technology vendors to deliver innovative, high-performing simulation services.

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience administering and supporting Linux and Windows operating systems in complex technical environments.
  • Proven experience managing servers, storage, networking and virtualised infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to maintain and optimise specialised hardware and software systems.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical environments where reliability, availability and system performance are essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Experience evaluating, implementing or supporting emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, automation platforms and intelligent information systems, to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $116,872 comprising base salary within the range of $92,120 to $99,891 plus 17% superannuation.
