About the opportunity

Neonatal Services at Mercy Hospital for Women comprise a leading tertiary academic centre within the Victorian perinatal and neonatal network and is affiliated with the University of Melbourne. The services include Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Special Care Nursery (SCN), and outpatient paediatric follow‑up programs.

The NICU is a 58‑bed unit (NICU/SCN combined) with more than 1,400 admissions annually, providing high‑level perinatal and neonatal care for infants born as early as 22 weeks’ gestation. The unit is recognised for excellence in clinical care, academic research, and education. It offers accredited training programs in basic and advanced paediatrics/neonatal medicine, neonatal nursing, and medical student teaching, supporting the development of the next generation of neonatal clinicians.

It is an exciting opportunity to join a highly supportive and collaborative team of specialist neonatologist, and clinicians contributing towards care of sick infants across the state.

Purpose of the role

• Deliver high‑quality, safe, and family‑centred clinical care to unwell newborns across the neonatal intensive care unit, special care nursery, and postnatal wards, functioning as a clinical leader within these settings.
• Contribute to the unit’s academic and educational activities, including supervision and mentoring of medical students and junior trainees, fostering a supportive environment that promotes career development and prioritises staff wellbeing.
• Participate in ambulatory and outpatient services, including the long‑term follow‑up of high‑risk infants.
• Engage fully in clinical governance, quality improvement and research activities, leading designated initiatives as assigned by the Clinical Director.
• Contribute as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing a highly responsive and flexible service to support the needs of babies and their families.

You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:

• A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
• Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
