OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
The Surf Academy Team Leader works on the floor alongside the Surf Academy Team Members and is the senior point of reference during the shift. You carry out the same daily duties - welcoming guests, checking bookings, and fitting and issuing rental equipment - while leading the team through the day, keeping the guest flow on schedule, and making sure procedures are followed.
Reporting to the Surf Academy Manager, you are the first point of escalation for guest and equipment issues, you run the opening and closing routines, and you help train and develop new Team Members. When the Surf Academy Manager is off site, you hold responsibility for the running of the Surf Academy.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the Surf Academy team during your shift: brief the team before opening, allocate positions, and debrief at the end of the day
- Work on the floor alongside the team: welcome guests, verify bookings and rental inclusions, and fit and issue wetsuits, surfboards, leashes and accessories
- Keep the guest flow on schedule during peak periods, adjusting positions and priorities as the day develops
- Act as first point of escalation for guest questions, complaints and operational issues, resolving what you can and referring the rest to the Surf Academy Manager
- Run the opening and closing routines, including area set-up, equipment counts and end-of-day checks
- Train and coach new Team Members on procedures, product knowledge, equipment handling and guest interaction
- Monitor standards on the floor and give clear, constructive feedback to the team
- Oversee the receiving, sorting, rinsing and storing of equipment after each session
- Carry out regular equipment inspections; log damage and repairs, and report stock gaps or recurring problems to the Surf Academy Manager
- Support the Surf Academy Manager with schedules, stock counts, checklists and daily reporting
- Keep the Surf Academy and rental area clean, safe, organised and welcoming at all times
- Coordinate with Instructors, Lifeguards and the Guest Experience Team to keep sessions running smoothly
- Make sure safety procedures and internal standards are understood and followed by the whole team
- Support surf camps, demo days, school groups and special events
- Deputise for the Surf Academy Manager during days off and absences
Qualifications
- Passion for water sports and an interest in surfing (surfing, wakeboarding, kitesurfing, SUP, diving, swimming, etc.)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor, guest-facing environment
- Confident communicator with attention to detail (bookings, sizes, timing)
- First Aid and CPR certification an advantage (training can be provided)
Experience
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role in hospitality, retail, rentals or a leisure facility
- Good working knowledge of surf equipment and/or board sports gear
- Experience in a surf school, beach club, water park or similar environment is a strong asset

Personal Qualities

- A strong desire to get people active and improve accessibility and inclusivity for all
- Committed to working early mornings, later nights, weekends and holidays as required when the site is at its busiest
- Fluent English is required (B2 minimum), Arabic a plus (highly desirable)
