As an R&D Project Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will lead complex, cross-functional projects that advance our mission of making the world healthier, cleaner and safer. You will be responsible for coordination and timely execution of development projects related to particular programs, managing the activities of cross-functional engineering disciplines.

his position utilizes the Product Management Process (PMP) and Module Development Process (MDP) to effectively guide new and existing products and modules through development, upgrades and installations.

In this role, you will manage strategic initiatives from concept to completion, ensuring successful delivery within scope, schedule, budget and quality parameters. You will collaborate with teams across the organization to drive project execution while building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Key interactions will be required with Program Managers as well as with various groups including internal and external subsystem vendors, science, system, software, design, electronics, applications, field service, and operations teams across geographically dispersed locations including Europe and US based Engineering teams.

This position requires someone who can navigate ambiguity, guide teams effectively, and succeed in a matrix environment. Your project management expertise and leadership will be critical in delivering impactful results that support business growth and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working in compliance with legislation and IMS
  • Coordination and timely execution of development projects related to particular programs
  • Managing and executing one to several projects as assigned by respective Program Manager in line with agreed processes and project management techniques
  • Monitoring projects from initiation through delivery, interfacing with Program Managers and Technical Leads on priority and technical matters, and reporting status and progress regularly
  • Planning, allocating and directing resource schedules as well as project budgets as requested
  • Effectively negotiating engineering requirements with cross-functional teams including applications engineering, manufacturing and field service
  • Contributing to the engineering budgeting process by providing financial and budgetary inputs and recommendations
  • Following effective documents IMS, EMS and managing documentation
  • Evaluating effects and risks associated with new technologies, components, and scope changes
  • Organizing Technical reviews, challenging, verifying and communicating technical decisions

Requirements:

  • University Degree in Physics, Engineering, Science, Business Administration or related discipline
  • Typically requires 2+ years in systems or subsystems design experience, or 5+ years of experience in project management leading complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Experience in a leadership role is preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of using PMBOK standards and principles as well as experience with using Agile/Scrum and/or Critical Chain project management methodologies is highly desired
  • Six Sigma/Lean certification a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus among key stakeholders that may not be under direct influence
  • Leadership abilities with proven success guiding teams through influence
  • Strong communication ability required due to the cross-functional nature of this role, with ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with all levels
  • Ability to assign specific duties and to create a constructive and cooperative working relationship
  • Experience managing project budgets, timelines, risks and stakeholder expectations
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
  • Business acumen and strategic mindset
  • Problem-solving abilities and proactive approach to risk mitigation
  • Knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software package including Microsoft Project or similar planning tools preferred
  • Knowledge of design of developed products or modules, with ability to evaluate effects and risks associated with new technologies, components, and scope changes
  • Experience in regulated industry (e.g. pharmaceutical, medical device) preferred
  • Knowledge of GMP/GLP, ISO and other relevant quality standards preferred
  • Strong communicative skills verbally and in writing
  • Fluent in English, additional languages a plus
  • Travel may be required, up to 25%
