Technical Support in Ship Classification provides global support and governance to all DNV regions in the daily operation and survey of vessels. Technical Support consists of ten units, with five based in Høvik, three in Hamburg, and three hub units located in Greece, Houston, and Singapore. Together, we cover all technical disciplines relevant to vessels in operation and their needs. With these units strategically located around the world, we are able to provide 24/7 support to our customers through Remote Surveys and the DATE® (Direct Access to Technical Experts) service.

The Class Systematics, Data & Operational Centre is a key unit within Technical Support. The unit forms the core of our operational centre, with a focus on handling Remote Surveys and DATE cases (Direct Access to Technical Experts) within its disciplines. In our daily work, we provide technical expertise to DNV's fleet-in-service stakeholders, both internal and external. The unit is also responsible for all issues around vessels certificates issued by DNV, which is an intersection of maritime compliance and digitalization. We cooperate closely with other discipline units within Technical Support and participate in the weekend duty shift system. Weekend duties of Technical Support ensure that customers and colleagues get qualified support 24/7 - same operating hours as the maritime industry. The shifts are taken on a voluntary basis between Technical Support colleagues based in Singapore, Germany, Norway, Greece and the USA to ensure around the clock coverage.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated graduate engineer to join this highly dynamic, demanding, and exciting section in Hamburg, Germany.

Area of responsibilities and key tasks include:

  • Deliver our core services through DNV's digital tools, including Remote Surveys and DATE® (Direct Access to Technical Experts), to support fleet-wide compliance for ship managers and owners

  • Support the development of future-fit digital class services

  • Serve as a member of the weekend duty team

  • Represent DNV at customer meetings, experience exchange seminars, and similar events through active participation and presentations

  • Help maintain our high standards of quality in systems and class deliverables

  • Regular working time of 39 hours with Flextime account and hybrid working options
    (To support our 24/7 operations, standard working hours are generally 08:00 to 16:00, with occasional weekend shifts required each year)

To be successful in the role you should have:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree relevant for the intended role (Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or similar)
  • Ideally some experience already gained in a maritime related position or internship
  • High-performing professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible, service minded, and positive, can-do attitude
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new ways of working
  • Excellent verbal & written proficiency in English (German would be very beneficial)
