What to Expect

The Cell Development team is seeking a highly motivated intern to support the validation and testing of our next-generation cells. You will focus on hands-on cell lifetime and reliability testing and design of test equipment. You will design, build and validate test equipment, develop tools and methods for cell degradation analysis, and drive high-impact testing operations. At Tesla, scope and complexity of your assignments are limited by your aptitude, not seniority or title.

What You’ll Do

• Perform cell tests using specialized equipment, fixtures, environmental test chambers and data loggers according to SOPs and internal standards.
• Gain experience with a first principal approach for test equipment design, commissioning and optimization.
• Perform and evaluate tests for equipment commissioning and product release.
• Develop and utilize software tools to analyze test data and generate predictive models for cell lifetime estimation.
• Learn about and apply fabrication methods to deliver test equipment quickly.
• Investigate technical problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable countermeasures to improve cell qualification operations.
• Build, assemble, commission equipment and tests.
• Collaborate with test technicians to achieve test objectives.
• Contribute to organizational tasks & responsibilities like creation & maintenance of procedures, SOPs, standards, equipment, inspections, lab commissioning, facilities, maintenance and staff trainings.
• Acquire knowledge about relevant industry standards, testing guidelines, and norms.
• Tasks require work with hazardous materials using mandated PPE and to set up and perform tests in person and in lab environments.
• Other tasks as required.

What You’ll Bring

• Pursuing a degree in a relevant field (Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or similar).
• Foundational understanding of cell degradation mechanisms.
• 3D Design/CAD skills and creation of fundamental wiring and hydraulics diagrams are required.
• A strong hands-on mindset with experience or keen interest in building, assembling, and troubleshooting mechanical or electrical equipment.
• Fluency in English, German is a plus.
• Analytical and problem-solving oriented mindset, proactive and structured work mentality.
• A proactive, safety-first attitude with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Initial experience in an OEM/supplier or equipment/machine manufacturer is a plus.
• Initial experience in MATLAB/Python or other languages is required; SQL is a plus.
• Project management experience or foundations are a plus
