Head of Total Reward
- Epassi
- Hamburg, Barcelona +3 more
- €110,000 – €150,000
Are you interested in joining one of Europe's fastest growing companies? Do you want to impact the wellbeing of millions of users?
If yes, join us to make an impact in a fast-paced and dynamic environment where you'll define how we pay and reward talent across a fast-growing, multi-market business, build a job architecture and compensation framework that scales with us, and lead our response to EU Pay Transparency requirements.
Epassi's purpose is to boost everyday well-being. We are a leading provider of employee benefit solutions across Europe. We were established in Finland in 2007, and in 2008 we were the first company to launch a mobile-payable employee benefit payment solution in Europe. Since then, we have consistently grown, diversifying our products and introducing our services into new markets.
Epassi has been awarded by the Financial Times as one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe on multiple occasions.
We are currently hiring a Head of Total Reward (f/m/d) - hybrid to be based in one of our locations.
Your mission at Epassi
As Head of Total Reward, you'll be the single point of accountability for how Epassi rewards its people, spanning job architecture, compensation, variable pay, benefits and pay transparency for the entire company. This is a pivotal hire at a pivotal moment: we're growing across multiple markets, EU Pay Transparency is coming into force, and our compensation framework needs to scale as fast as we do. You'll work closely with our CPO to shape reward strategy, and with People BPs, Finance and Legal to bring it to life across the business. Over time, you'll build and lead a small team as the function grows with us. The role is hybrid and can be based at any Epassi office in Europe, with occasional travel to other locations.
Your responsibilities will be:
- Iterate and evolve our job architecture framework, including levelling and benchmarking, in line with business growth
- Automate job levelling and compensation benchmarking so the business always has a live view of our market position
- Analyse total compensation across IC, people leader and executive team levels at least annually, bringing external market insight into the picture
- Review benefits options market by market, identify gaps, and propose funding and investment plans
- Design, build and implement our compensation review end to end, partnering with People BPs on enablement and decision-making
- Ensure compliance with reward-relevant regulation, such as pay transparency and employment tax, in close partnership with Finance and Legal
- Build and maintain an AI-backed knowledge base and micro-learnings that help people leaders and employees make confident, informed pay decisions
- Run employee sessions that bring Epassi's reward philosophy to life
You’ll be successful in this role if you:
- Have defined the reward strategy with the CPO and set up automated, always-current compensation benchmarking across markets, backed by a clear roadmap the business can hold you to
- Give people leaders the confidence to make consistent pay decisions, because the framework, tools and enablement are all in place
- Have reviewed and refreshed the benefits offering with a proposal that's cost-efficient and genuinely lives up to "Wellbeing that Works"
- Have reviewed and redesigned variable pay where needed, with a proposal the CPO and CEO can take to the board
- Meet pay transparency obligations across all markets, including DE and FI reporting, pay ranges in job adverts, and a clean process for handling pay data requests
What you'll be doing (daily):
- Maintain and iterate the job architecture framework, running levelling and benchmarking through automated tools
- Pull together market and compensation data from multiple sources to spot trends before they become problems
- Build and refine compensation review models and pay proposals ahead of leadership and board discussions
- Partner with People BPs, Finance and Legal on individual pay decisions, benefits gaps and compliance questions
- Update and maintain the AI-backed knowledge base that answers day-to-day reward questions
- Design and deliver micro-learnings and sessions that help people leaders and employees understand pay decisions
- Track pay transparency requirements market by market and adjust reporting and job ads accordingly
What you should bring:
- Extensive experience as a reward leader in fast-paced, high-growth, ambitious European companies
- Strong analytical rigour and attention to detail in how you work with data
- A bias for pace, comfortable seeing results fast and learning by doing
- Confidence presenting and storytelling, able to bring reward to life for different audiences
- Advanced Excel/Sheets skills and hands-on experience with AI tools
- Prior experience building or leading a small team is a strong plus
Your language profile:
Fluent English is required. Other European languages are an advantage.
Your track record:
- You have built or scaled a job architecture and compensation framework in a growing company
- You have led compensation reviews end to end, from benchmarking through to implementation
- You have designed benefits or variable pay proposals that were adopted by senior leadership or the board
- You have navigated pay transparency or similar regulatory requirements across multiple markets
Your competency profile:
- Constructive challenge: You back your point of view with data and aren't afraid to challenge leaders directly, while knowing when to step back and let others decide.
- Commercial judgement: You stay structured and analytical without ever losing sight of the commercial outcome your work needs to deliver.
- Cross-functional partnership: You build trusted relationships across People, Finance and Legal to land the right result together.
- Employee-centred mindset: You understand how reward shapes the day-to-day employee experience and use that insight to make our proposition stronger for the people who rely on it.
- Data-led decision making: You start with data, combine it with judgement and business context, and know when to push forward and when to let others lead.
