Engineering Superintendent – Water Management Project

Barrick is looking for an Engineering Superintendent – Water Management Project to join to our projects team. This person will be responsible for leading and coordinating the engineering development of the Pueblo Viejo Integrated Water Management Project, ensuring effective integration across technical disciplines, internal stakeholders, the EPCM contractor, and specialized consultants. Ensure that technical alternatives and recommendations are properly substantiated and aligned with operational, environmental, safety, cost, schedule, and business requirements.

Main Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of engineering activities throughout the PFS, Feasibility, FEED, and Detailed Engineering stages, defining scope, deliverables, priorities, resources, schedule, and quality criteria.
• Establish, maintain, and control the Project Design Basis and battery limits, integrating water and chemical balances, water quality, operating scenarios, P50/P95 conditions, discharge requirements, and plant water reuse needs.
• Integrate technical inputs from Pueblo Viejo, the EPCM contractor, water balance consultants, specialized consultants, laboratories, and vendors, ensuring a single approved technical basis and traceability of assumptions, decisions, and changes.
• Lead the evaluation and selection of water treatment alternatives, including pretreatment, UF/RO, and other applicable technologies, as well as strategies for brine, concentrate, and sludge management.
• Coordinate characterization programs, treatability testing, and pilot programs; verify that results are representative and are translated into design criteria, process guarantees, and measurable performance requirements.
• Review and recommend approval of design criteria, mass and water balances, flow diagrams, P&IDs, hydraulic profiles, equipment lists and data sheets, specifications, control philosophies, layouts, models, and engineering calculations.
• Coordinate interfaces among processes, civil/geotechnical, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and control, environmental, mining, TSF, operations, maintenance, and safety disciplines, ensuring timely resolution of design gaps and conflicts.
• Plan and lead design reviews, HAZOP/LOPA, constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews, ensuring documented close-out of all actions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legal, environmental, corporate, and engineering code requirements.
• Manage the performance of the EPCM contractor and technical consultants with respect to scope, quality, hours, cost, and schedule; control deliverables, comments, technical queries, RFIs, deviations, changes, risks, and outstanding actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Master's degree in Water Treatment, Process Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Postgraduate specialization or professional certification in Industrial Water Treatment, Water Management, or Water/Wastewater Engineering (preferred).
• Bilingual (Spanish & English)
• 10 years of progressive experience in engineering and industrial project development; 12+ years preferred.
• 5 years of relevant experience in industrial water management, treatment, or water reuse projects.
• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing EPC/EPCM contractors, preferably from the Owner's perspective.
• Direct and demonstrable experience with industrial reverse osmosis (RO) plants, including significant involvement in at least one project through design, execution, commissioning, operations, or optimization.
• Experience with brownfield projects and integration with operating process plants; mining, TSF, or ARD experience is preferred.
• Experience across PFS/Feasibility, FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Pre-commissioning, Commissioning, and handover to Operations.
• Experience in the design and operation of industrial water and wastewater treatment systems, including clarification, filtration, chemical dosing, UF, NF/RO, demineralization, and sludge and concentrate management.
• Required experience in water and chemical balances, water chemistry, hydraulics, pumping systems, piping, water storage, and water reuse within process plants.
• Knowledge and experience with environmental regulations and water discharge/reuse criteria; experience with water management in mining, ARD, and TSF systems is preferred.
• Technical leadership capability, including the ability to effectively challenge and review designs proposed by EPCM contractors and vendors.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, quality, and collaborative work.
