PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £29,000 - £36,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

This is a place-based role where we expect the successful candidate to be based in the region. Interviews are expected to take place on the 1st of October in Glasgow.

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Impact Manager, the Impact Officer manages a portfolio of grants across Scotland, supporting organisations throughout the funding lifecycle from application through to monitoring and learning. The role combines relationship management, assessment and decision-making, helping ensure BBC Children in Need funding reaches the children and young people who need it most.

Alongside grant-making responsibilities, contribute to the annual BBC CiN Appeal by supporting local fundraising activity, identifying and sharing stories that bring the impact of our funding to life, and working with BBC colleagues, fundraisers, volunteers and funded organisations at events throughout the year.

This role supports our mission to focus on funding inspiring ideas that provide effective and sustainable positive change for disadvantaged children and young people in Scotland.

The successful applicant will play a significant role in helping BBC Children in Need achieve its aims across Scotland. Combining grant making, relationship management and sound judgement, they will work alongside colleagues and sector partners to ensure funding reaches organisations supporting children and young people facing the greatest challenges.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Grant Making: Support organisations through the funding process, from enquiry to assessment, providing advice and feedback, analysing applications and using sound judgement to make evidence-based funding recommendations.
• Grant Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of funded organisations, monitoring progress, reviewing reporting requirements, identifying risks and capturing learning to understand and maximise the impact of BBC CiN funding.
• Relationship Building: Build and maintain strong relationships with applicants, funded organisations and partners, undertaking project visits and applying a relational approach while maintaining an understanding of emerging issues affecting children and young people across Scotland.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively within a small Scotland team and across the wider UK charity, contributing to shared continuous improvement, presentations, learning and decision-making while taking ownership of your own portfolio and priorities.
• Appeal: Alongside grant-making responsibilities, contribute to the annual Appeal by supporting local fundraising activity, sharing stories that demonstrate the impact of our funding, and working with BBC colleagues, volunteers, fundraisers and funded organisations at events throughout the year.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Experience of grant making and/or grant management, including assessment, monitoring and making funding recommendations.
• Strong understanding of Scotland’s third sector, public sector and funding landscape, particularly in relation to children and young people, with a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and families.
• Excellent analytical, decision-making and organisational skills, with the ability to assess evidence, identify risks, prioritise competing demands and work independently to meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience building and maintaining effective relationships across a diverse range of organisations, partners and communities.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and contribute to wider organisational objectives, supported by strong digital skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and database systems, and alignment with the values of BBC Children in Need.

DESIRABLE

• Experience presenting information or delivering training to a range of audiences.
• Experience using grant management systems, CRM database or other data management tools.
• Experience of working with children and young people or organisations supporting children and young people.

This role requires a relevant PVG/DBS check to be undertaken by the BBC at the appropriate level, at the point of offer of a contract of employment.
