CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed Term 9 month contract with potential to be extended to complete filming and offline edit.

DEPARTMENT: BBC Studios NHU

LOCATION: Bridgewater House, Bristol - hybrid working

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £48,000 - £65,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

START DATE: November/December 2026

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Following on from the recent success of Asia, The Americas and Kingdom, we are looking for experienced and enthusiastic Producer/Directors to work on a new and ambitious landmark production which delivers in Spring/Summer 2029.

The role will involve taking responsibility for one landmark film/episode.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Lead and manage a team through research and development to identify compelling, achievable character-led stories.
• Create engaging story boards and relatable narratives that get the most out of animal characters.
• Work alongside the series producer and executive producer to ensure sequences fit the editorial brief and reflect the ambition and creative direction of the series.
• Work effectively to ensure all content is thoroughly researched and meets the BBC’s editorial standards.
• Plan strategically to ensure editorial aspirations align with schedule, budget and available resources.
• Oversee and manage the logistics of complex shoots.
• Oversee the health and safety of your team’s shoots, often in highly specialized areas of filming.
• To have a duty of care to the team, to the animals that you are filming, to the location where you are working and to the wider environment.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• You must have produced at least one sequence-based major landmark film for broadcast.
• Willing to travel to location to direct shoots but also manage remote & other complex shoots. In both cases be responsible for overseeing the safety.
• Able to problem solve when faced with challenging circumstances, be organised and have a track record in
  successful management of budgets.
• Resilience and stamina to work under pressure.
• An understanding of the ‘duty of care’ to an individuals’ wellbeing and a consideration of the mental
  health of your team.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

• Experience of working with presenters and on-screen contributors.
• Strong writing skills for a wide range of editorial tasks including programme overviews, scripting and story pitches.
• A specialist knowledge of the African continent and the wildlife that lives there, and experience of working in challenging environments.
• Experience delivering assets for digital/social and promotional campaigns.
