Retail Assistant

The purpose of this role is to provide GREAT service to all our customers, primarily from our tills area, ensuring every customer receives a friendly, efficient, and positive experience. Whilst this role is mainly till-focused, you will also support other departments and areas of the business as required, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the centre.

This role is working an average of 36.75 hours per week, on the following shift pattern:

Week 1: Monday (9:00-17:00), Tuesday (11:30-19:30), Wednesday & Thursday (9:00-17:00)

Week 2: Monday (9:00-17:00), Tuesday (11:30-19:30), Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday (9:00-17:00), Sunday (10:00-16:30)

Key Responsibilities:

As a Retail Assistant, you will:

  • Deliver a warm welcome and provide excellent customer service at all times
  • Operate tills accurately and efficiently, processing customer transactions and payments
  • Handle customer enquiries, returns, exchanges, and gift card transactions professionally
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming till and customer service area
  • Ensure queues are managed effectively and customers are served promptly
  • Support customers with product information and direct them to the appropriate department when needed
  • Assist with stock replenishment, merchandising, and general shop floor duties during quieter periods
  • Support deliveries, stock movements, and other operational tasks as required
  • Work flexibly across departments to support the wider team and business needs
  • Follow health & safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment for all
  • Handle customer queries or concerns professionally, escalating where appropriate
  • Assist with stock control and stock counts when required

Skills Knowledge and Expertise:

The ideal Retail Assistant is someone who:

  • Ideally has previous customer service or cash handling experience, although this is not essential
  • Enjoys working with people and delivering excellent customer service
  • Can remain friendly, positive, and professional in a fast-paced environment
  • Has good attention to detail and can work accurately when handling transactions
  • Is willing to develop and learn new skills
  • Is a strong team player who is happy to support different areas of the business when needed
  • Previous knowledge of retail sales principles and practices is desirable but not essential
  • Is flexible to work additional shifts and weekends if required
