Smiths is looking for a reliable and hardworking Delivery Driver & Yard Operative to support the day-to-day operation of our Commercial Waste division in Cardiff.

This is a varied and hands-on role that combines delivery driving with yard-based duties. You will be responsible for the safe delivery and collection of wheelie bins, equipment and materials across our operating area, while also helping to maintain a safe, organised and efficient yard environment.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery & Collection Duties

• Safely deliver and collect wheelie bins, equipment and materials across our operating area.
• Complete daily delivery and collection schedules efficiently and professionally.
• Accurately record deliveries and collections using handheld devices and tablets.
• Ensure all loads are transported safely and securely in line with company procedures.

Yard Operations

• Support the day-to-day running of a busy operational yard.
• Assist with wheelie bin cleaning, repairs and maintenance.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness and organisation throughout the yard.
• Support operational activities to ensure customer requirements are met efficiently and safely.

Vehicle Safety & Compliance

• Carry out daily vehicle checks and inspections.
• Complete vehicle defect reporting and inspection records accurately.
• Operate vehicles safely and in accordance with company procedures and transport legislation.
• Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant at all times.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

✅ Full UK Driving Licence

✅ Experience in a delivery driving, yard operative, warehouse, waste management, construction or similar operational role

✅ Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an operational environment

✅ Ability to load, unload and handle equipment and materials safely

✅ Basic IT skills, including the use of tablets and handheld devices

✅ Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable

• Forklift Truck Licence
• Experience within the waste management, recycling or logistics sectors
• First Aid or Health & Safety qualification
