Portfolio Manager

Purpose of the role

To generate returns, manage risk, and ensure the portfolio’s financial stability and long-term success.

Accountabilities

  • Allocation and monitoring of securities within a portfolio, aligned to the banks risk tolerance to framework and changing market conditions, investment objectives and regulatory requirements, utilising specialist software and data analytics tools, to enhance the portfolio management efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Execution of research and analysis on various securities (equity, bond, funds) to identify profitable investment opportunities, aligned to the banks risk tolerance.
  • Communication of the banks investment philosophy, decision making and investment selection to Clients and other key stakeholders such as Relationship Managers and Investment Advisors.
  • Performance monitoring against benchmarks and objectives, analysing risk metrics, and creation of reports for senior colleagues and internal stakeholders.
  • Implementation of risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate potential financial risks associated with the portfolio, such as market fluctuations, credit risk, and liquidity risk.
  • Conducting of simulations to assess the portfolio's resilience to different market scenarios and economic downturns, identification of potential vulnerabilities and informing on risk mitigation strategies, and communicate key findings to senior executives and board members.
  • Monitoring of economic data, industry news, and geopolitical events to anticipate potential impacts on the portfolio and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Research of emerging asset classes, innovative investment strategies, and alternative investments to potentially enhance portfolio returns.
  • Stakeholder management of investment banks, market makers, and other external partners as needed for portfolio transactions and information gathering.

  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.

Join our Private Bank and Wealth Management team in Jersey as a Portfolio Manager and play a key role in delivering exceptional investment outcomes and client experiences.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an investment professional who is passionate about financial markets and looking to further develop their career in discretionary portfolio management. Working closely with experienced Portfolio Managers and investment specialists, the successful candidate will contribute to portfolio construction, investment research and the implementation of investment decisions, while developing broader portfolio management and client relationship responsibilities over time.

As part of the Jersey Discretionary Portfolio Management team, you will contribute to our collaborative investment culture and support the delivery of tailored investment solutions for private clients. You will have the opportunity to participate in investment discussions, contribute research and play an active role in the ongoing evolution of our investment propositions.

What you'll be doing

  • Support the management and implementation of discretionary investment portfolios across a range of client mandates.
  • Conduct investment research and analysis across equities, fixed income, funds and other asset classes.
  • Assist with portfolio construction, asset allocation and investment decision implementation.
  • Contribute market insights and research to investment discussions and forums.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, risk metrics and investment objectives.
  • Prepare portfolio reviews, investment commentary and client reporting.
  • Communicate investment philosophy, portfolio positioning and market developments to clients and colleagues.
  • Monitor economic, market and geopolitical developments and assess their impact on portfolios.
  • Support the continuous development of investment processes and portfolio management capabilities.
  • Develop technical investment expertise and broaden client management responsibilities as experience and capability grow.

Essential Skills / Qualifications

  • Level 4 investment qualification, such as the Investment Management Certificate (IMC), or a commitment to achieving one.
  • Previous experience in investment management, portfolio analysis, investment research, portfolio construction or a related investment discipline is a plus.
  • Strong interest in financial markets and investing across multiple asset classes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications

  • Progress towards CFA or other relevant professional qualifications.
  • Previous exposure to discretionary portfolio management.
  • Experience interacting with clients, relationship managers or other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of portfolio management systems and investment platforms.

This role is deemed as a Certified role under the PRA & UK Financial Conduct Authority - Individual Accountabilities Regulations and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.
