Fitch Ratings is seeking an experienced credit analyst, at the Associate Director or Director level to join our Financial Institutions team in Colombo.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced analytical professional who is passionate about the Sri Lankan financial sector and wants to play a meaningful role in shaping market views on banks, non-bank financial institutions, insurers, and asset managers.

At Fitch Ratings, you’ll be part of a global organisation known for its independent credit opinions, high-quality research, and strong analytical standards. In this role, you will combine deep sector knowledge, analytical judgment, and stakeholder engagement to contribute to Fitch’s credit ratings and research on Sri Lankan financial institutions.

About the Team

Our Colombo-based Financial Institutions team covers a range of Sri Lankan financial institutions, including banks, NBFIs, insurance companies, funds, and asset managers. We are looking for someone who brings strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in understanding the trends shaping the local financial sector.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Lead credit analysis of financial institutions, assessing creditworthiness through application of Fitch’s rating methodologies and consideration of local market dynamics.
  • Prepare insightful rating reports and research, including issuer commentary, sector insights, and thematic analysis for investors, regulators, and other market participants.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including senior management of rated entities, regulators, and industry participants, to gather insights and represent Fitch’s analytical views.
  • Monitor sector and market developments, identifying emerging risks, trends, and opportunities that may affect credit profiles and rating outcomes.
  • Present recommendations in rating committees, contributing to transparent, well-supported, and timely rating decisions.
  • Collaborate effectively across teams, contributing to the broader success of Fitch’s analytical franchise.

What We’re Looking For:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in credit analysis or a related field, gained at a credit rating agency, bank, investment bank, regulator, asset manager, securities firm, consultancy, or accounting firm. Candidates with deeper experience and strong knowledge of Sri Lanka’s financial institutions are encouraged to apply.
  • A strong understanding of Sri Lanka’s financial institutions sector, including the key credit drivers affecting banks, NBFIs, insurers, and asset managers.
  • Previous people management or team leadership experience would be a strong advantage
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Progress toward or completion of the CFA qualification would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical capability, including the ability to assess financial institutions for credit rating purposes, evaluate macro-financial system risks, and apply an international credit perspective.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analytical conclusions clearly, confidently, and concisely to both internal and external audiences.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and coordinate effectively with colleagues to meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative working style and proven ability to contribute effectively within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with credit rating methodologies and committee-based analytical processes is advantageous.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must be able to comply with all aspects of Fitch’s internal compliance requirements, including disclosure of potential conflicts of interest and investment holdings.
