Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Inventory & Warehouse Superintendent is accountable for inventory planning, control and warehouse service delivery across TMLSA.

Purpose of Role

To lead the safe, efficient and data-driven management of TMLSA's large, complex and high-value inventory and warehouse operations, ensuring critical materials are available when required while optimizing inventory accuracy, service levels, working capital and storage capacity.

The role requires a highly experienced inventory and warehouse professional with practical expertise in inventory planning, replenishment, optimization and control across critical spares, consumables, bulk commodities, repairables and other operational materials. The Superintendent will translate operational demand into disciplined stocking strategies and robust inventory parameters.

This is a strongly systems- and analytics-oriented leadership role. The Inventory & Warehouse Superintendent will use JDE/ERP data, advanced Excel and business-intelligence tools to interrogate large datasets, improve planning decisions, strengthen master-data quality and drive measurable improvements in material availability, inventory value and working capital, while leading safe and reliable warehouse service delivery.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own the inventory management strategy and performance for a large, complex and high-value inventory portfolio, with clear governance, standards and accountability for service, accuracy and working capital
  • Set and continuously optimize replenishment parameters using demand history, criticality, lead times, consumption variability and service-level requirements, including min/max, reorder-point and safety-stock settings.
  • Apply advanced inventory segmentation and demand profiling, including ABC/XYZ and criticality-based analysis, to differentiate stocking policies and focus attention on the highest-value and highest-risk materials.
  • Lead demand analysis and forecasting, challenge assumptions with Operations and Maintenance, and translate operating and maintenance plans into a coordinated inventory and materials plan.
  • Manage critical spares, bulk commodities, repairables and other major cost-driver categories to protect site reliability while controlling inventory investment.
  • Drive inventory optimization and working-capital improvement by reducing excess, obsolete and slow-moving stock, improving inventory turns and days-on-hand, and releasing value without creating unacceptable operational risk.
  • Govern item-master and catalogue data in JDE/ERP, including descriptions, units of measure, classifications, lead times, stocking types and planning parameters; eliminate duplicates and maintain strong data quality.
  • Control new-item creation and Phase In/Phase Out decisions using criticality, demand, lead time, interchangeability and stocking-risk assessments.
  • Lead annual stock counts and risk-based cycle-count programs and ensure high-value and high-risk inventory receives appropriate count coverage and control.
  • Investigate physical-to-system variances, inventory adjustments, negative stock and recurring transaction errors; identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective controls.
  • Act as the functional expert for inventory processes in JDE/ERP and associated tools, ensuring system settings, workflows, transactions and controls support accurate and efficient inventory management.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting for inventory value, service level, stockouts, forecast accuracy, turns, days-on-hand, ageing, excess and obsolete stock and count accuracy.
  • Use large datasets and analytical tools to identify abnormal consumption, emerging stockout risk, overstock, parameter issues and inventory trends, and convert findings into clear, evidence-based actions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely receipt, inspection, binning, storage, preservation, issue, movement and dispatch of materials, with strong transaction discipline and prompt resolution of discrepancies.
  • Maintain secure, orderly and fit-for-purpose warehouses, yards and storage areas with effective preservation, location control, housekeeping, material-handling, HSE and asset-security practices.
  • Coordinate with Sourcing, Purchasing, Expediting, Logistics, Maintenance and Operations to improve material availability, supplier lead times, repairs, returns and end-to-end materials flow.
  • Lead continuous improvement and automation across inventory, warehouse, master-data and reporting processes, ensuring improvements are standardized, documented and sustained.
  • Lead, coach and develop the inventory and warehouse teams, build strong system and analytical capability, set clear performance expectations and promote HSE, integrity and disciplined inventory controls.

Education and Experience

Experience:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of directly related experience in inventory management, materials planning and control, with substantial recent responsibility for inventory optimization and at least five (5) years in a leadership or management role.
  • Demonstrated track record managing large, high-value and technically diverse inventories, including critical spares, consumables, bulk materials, repairables and other operationally critical stock categories.
  • Mining experience is essential; strong exposure to maintenance-driven inventory, critical-spares management and remote or complex supply environments is highly regarded.
  • Advanced, hands-on proficiency with JDE or an equivalent enterprise ERP system is required, including inventory transactions, replenishment parameters, item-master data, reporting and inventory controls.
  • Advanced Excel and strong practical analytics capability are required. Experience with Power BI or equivalent business-intelligence tools is strongly preferred; data-query/SQL capability is advantageous.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Accounting or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience supported by substantial inventory-management expertise.
  • Expert practical knowledge of inventory planning and optimization, including ABC/XYZ segmentation, material criticality, demand variability, service levels, safety stock, reorder points, min/max parameters and lead-time management
  • Ability to interrogate large inventory datasets, validate data quality, identify trends and anomalies, perform root-cause analysis and convert findings into clear stocking, replenishment and working-capital decisions
  • Strong systems and master-data discipline, with a clear understanding of how ERP configuration, item attributes, planning parameters, transaction quality and controls affect inventory accuracy and availability
  • Strong understanding of inventory KPIs and working-capital measures, including value, turns, days-on-hand, service level, stockouts, ageing, excess/obsolete stock, forecast accuracy and count accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse controls, stocktaking and cycle counting, material preservation and the interfaces between inventory, procurement, logistics and maintenance planning
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and present data-driven inventory recommendations to operational, functional and senior stakeholders
