Summary of Role:
GlobalFoundries is seeking a skilled and motivated Computer and Server Repair Technician to develop, implement, and support the Electronic Repair Center (ERC) for Fab 8 in Malta, New York. This position will focus on the diagnosis, repair, refurbishment, and lifecycle management of computer hardware, industrial servers, storage systems, network infrastructure, and related electronic equipment used to support semiconductor manufacturing operations. The role contributes to productivity improvements by increasing equipment availability, extending asset life, reducing replacement costs, and minimizing downtime. This position is located within the 300mm factory in Malta, New York. This is a normal schedule (5x2, Monday through Friday position), but will require flexibility across all shifts to support critical manufacturing needs. A successful Fab 8 ERC Computer and Server Repair Technician is self-motivated, works effectively both independently and within a team environment, and demonstrates flexibility regarding assignments, overtime, and work area responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide bench-level diagnostics, repair, refurbishment, and validation of computer systems, industrial servers, workstations, storage devices, network hardware, and associated electronic assemblies for the Electronic Repair Center at Fab 8.
- Troubleshoot hardware failures to the component, board, and subsystem level, including server motherboards, power distribution systems, memory, processors, storage devices, and communication interfaces.
- Develop and execute standard work practices for computer and server repair, testing, and qualification.
- Develop repair pipelines, documentation, and standard work instructions for computer hardware repair and refurbishment activities.
- Develop and implement repair standards utilizing job breakdown sheets and ensure effective training plans are in place for team members.
- Partner with manufacturing and engineering organizations to identify high-impact repair opportunities and convert them into measurable productivity and cost-saving results.
- Support the fab with critical infrastructure and manufacturing system hardware repairs while maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, and turnaround time.
- Perform hardware imaging, system configuration, firmware updates, and functional validation testing to ensure repaired assets meet operational requirements.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Education – Associate degree in Computer Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Military Equivalent, Trade Equivalent, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Experience – Minimum of 3 years of experience in computer hardware repair, server maintenance, electronics repair, IT infrastructure support, or a related technical field.
- Travel – Up to 10%.
- Strong troubleshooting skills involving computer systems, servers, storage devices, networking hardware, and electronic assemblies.
- Experience using diagnostic tools, test equipment, and repair methodologies to isolate and resolve hardware failures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a tightly coupled team environment.
- Language Fluency – Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
- Physical Capacity Demands –
- Able to work in a cleanroom environment per semiconductor protocol and requirements.
- Able to wear all required cleanroom protective clothing and equipment.
- Lifting up to 40 pounds, bending, twisting, and working with equipment in varying physical configurations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience working in semiconductor manufacturing, data center operations, IT infrastructure, or industrial computing environments.
- Direct experience with repair and troubleshooting of servers, computer systems, network equipment, storage devices, industrial PCs, embedded controllers, and electronic assemblies.
- Experience with hardware diagnostics, component-level repair, firmware management, and system validation methodologies.
- Familiarity with server operating systems, RAID storage configurations, system imaging, and computer hardware deployment processes.
- Strong team player with the ability to work effectively within a global team environment.
Expected Salary Range
$48,200.00 - $83,200.00
