What will you be doing?

Within our organisation, as Operations Manager, you will have overall responsibility for day-to-day operations and the further development of our business processes. You will translate the organisation’s strategic objectives into a safe, efficient and profitable operation and will be responsible for the continuity, growth and optimisation of all operational processes. You will ensure that the processing of ferrous and non-ferrous materials takes place in a safe, high-quality and cost-efficient manner. In doing so, you will continuously focus on efficiency, productivity, quality and compliance with legislation and regulations relating to safety, the environment and quality. As Operations Manager, you will directly manage the Yard Manager and the operators. You will create a professional working environment in which collaboration, ownership and continuous improvement are central. You will organise regular operational meetings, set clear objectives and monitor the progress of the work.

In addition, you will play an active role in preparing and justifying CAPEX investments. You will contribute strategically to decisions on investments in machinery, plant and capacity expansions, assessing investment proposals in terms of safety, return on investment, business continuity and operational efficiency. In a commercial capacity, you will maintain existing relationships, actively build new partnerships and identify market opportunities. You will liaise with customers and suppliers, support the commercial process and contribute to the organisation’s continued growth. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the purchasing and sales of non-ferrous materials. You will monitor market developments, negotiate with suppliers and customers, and ensure optimal stock management and maximum margins.

As a member of the management team, you will work closely with the Procurement, Logistics, R&D and Technical Services departments. You will initiate improvement programmes, optimise business processes and actively contribute to the strategic growth and further professionalisation of the organisation.

Key tasks and responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day operational processes within (non-)ferrous processing.
• Monitoring the KPIs of the shredder and associated processing plants
• Managing production planning using KPIs to achieve capacity, quality and delivery times.
• Leading, motivating and developing operators and site staff.
• Monitoring productivity and initiating process improvements to maximise operational efficiency.
• Coordinating maintenance work to minimise downtime of machinery and plant, with the aim of achieving high machine utilisation and low operational costs
• Managing staff planning, staff deployment and overtime to meet operational demand.
• Provide support with budgeting, forecasting, improvement projects and CAPEX projects.

Job requirements

• You have a completed higher professional education (HBO) qualification (Operations Management, Industrial Engineering) or a comparable degree, with a demonstrable HBO level of working and thinking.
• You have at least 5 years’ relevant work experience within the manufacturing industry or a heavy industrial environment; experience in metal recycling is an advantage.
• You have experience in driving production results, KPIs and implementing continuous improvement programmes.
• You are a strong communicator and are fluent in Dutch and English; German is an advantage.
• You have a good knowledge of and experience with MS Office; experience with ERP and SAP is an advantage.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies is an advantage.
• Knowledge of the sorting, classification and processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals is an advantage.
• Certifications in emergency response, first aid, VCA or safety management are an advantage.
