Test Engineer

Behind every breakthrough technology is reliable testing. Join Nel as a Test Engineer and help ensure our hydrogen solutions perform safely, consistently, and efficiently through world-class testing and continuous improvement.

We are looking for a structured and solution-oriented Test Engineer to join our Technology department and support our alkaline operations through the operation, maintenance, and running of our test stations. You will work closely with colleagues across disciplines to ensure high quality, stable operations, and continuous improvement of test equipment and test processes.

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys technical challenges, problem-solving, and collaborating with others in a hands-on, operational environment.

Your new role

As a Test Engineer, you will play an important role in the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our test stations and test systems within alkaline operations. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Technology organization, you will help ensure reliable test execution, high equipment availability, and efficient testing processes that support product quality and development.

Whether you are a recent graduate looking to start your engineering career or an experienced engineer seeking new technical challenges, this role offers a unique opportunity to work with advanced test equipment and modern technologies in a highly collaborative environment. You will be part of a team that values learning, innovation, and continuous improvement while supporting your professional growth and development.

Your responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Operate and monitor test stations and test equipment.
  • Ensure stable and efficient operation of test systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to test equipment and associated systems.
  • Plan and perform preventive maintenance activities.
  • Support the installation, upgrade, and qualification of new test equipment.
  • Analyze test results and report deviations.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure effective testing processes.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities related to test methods, automation, and process efficiency.
  • Provide training and support to users of test equipment.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is structured, proactive, and motivated by solving technical challenges. You enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, communicating effectively with colleagues across disciplines, and taking a responsible approach to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. You are analytical by nature, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and motivated to learn and develop in a dynamic technical environment.

You bring with you:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical education in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant practical experience may compensate for formal education requirements.
  • Relevant engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, or development of test systems is an advantage, but recent graduates with strong motivation and a relevant academic background are also encouraged to apply.
  • Good understanding of troubleshooting hardware and software systems.
  • Experience with test equipment, measurement instruments, and data analysis is desirable.
  • Knowledge of automated test solutions is an advantage.
  • Fluency in Norwegian and English, both written and spoken.

What you will get from working with us

  • An opportunity to work in a company in a leading position in the hydrogen and clean energy market.
  • A visible and impactful role with many exciting interfaces across teams and stakeholders, both locally and globally.
  • A dynamic and highly professional working environment consisting of competent and committed colleagues.
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, pension and insurance schemes.
