Trade Me Role Description

Tangram is Trade Me's next-generation design system; the shared visual and interaction language behind every product our customers use. As our Design System Designer, you'll shape components, tokens and patterns that every squad builds with. This is a part-time, 3 days a week, 6 month contract based in our Auckland office.
Here is what you can expect from this role:
- Design and maintain components, patterns and semantic design tokens across web and mobile platforms
- Partner with engineers to ensure components are built to spec, accessible and behave consistently
- Own or contribute to system governance by evaluating and triaging component requests and proposals
- Document cross-platform design decisions with clear rationale and maintain human/machine-readable documentation
- Facilitate workshops and critiques to drive alignment and advocate for the design system across the business
What you will bring to our team:
- 3+ years' product design experience with time spent on a design system, component library or pattern library
- Strong working knowledge of semantic design tokens and how they map to code
- Deep Figma expertise, including component/variant architecture and dev-mode/code-connect workflows
- A systems-thinking mindset with high attention to detail for edge cases, states and accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to explain decisions clearly and partner with front-end engineers You'll have the best time working at Trade Me, and this is why:
