At Westpac, we're looking for an experienced governance and legal professional to join our Corporate Governance team as Senior Company Secretary & Legal Counsel.

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside Directors, Executives and key governance stakeholders, providing strategic governance leadership and trusted legal advice that supports strong decision-making across Westpac New Zealand.

In this influential role, you'll help drive governance excellence by advising on complex governance and regulatory matters, supporting Boards and Committees, and ensuring governance frameworks remain robust, effective and future-focused.

More than a traditional company secretarial role, you'll play a key part in continuing the evolution of our Corporate Governance function, helping move it from a compliance-focused model to a proactive, insight-led capability that enables organisational success in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

• You're a qualified New Zealand lawyer with strong experience in corporate, commercial or in-house legal roles.
• You've worked in complex or highly regulated environments, ideally within banking, financial services or a similar industry.
• You're comfortable building relationships with senior leaders and providing trusted advice to Boards, Executives and governance stakeholders.
• You have a solid understanding of governance principles and know how to balance legal requirements with practical business outcomes.
• You think strategically, apply sound judgement and can see the bigger picture when solving problems.
• You're highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
• You communicate clearly and confidently, whether you're preparing Board papers, governance advice, meeting minutes or presenting recommendations.
• You enjoy coaching, mentoring and sharing your expertise with others.
• You're passionate about continuous improvement and have helped drive positive change through new ways of working, process improvements or technology-enabled solutions.
