About the organisation
He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Maori organisation who have been supporting whānau and the community for over 30 years. He Waka Tapu works to increase the health and wellbeing of Whānau - me mahi tahi tatou mot e organga o te whānau.
KPTO is a service that is committed to making a positive impact on the communities of Ōtautahi, Hakatere, Kaikōura, and Wharekauri (Chatham Islands).
About the role
We are seeking a person who is creative in ideas on how to connect with whānau and communities alongside their team. Our focus of the KPTO service is about driving engagement, spreading crucial messages, and providing support to those in need, often in very difficult times.
Key responsibilities include
- Support the KPTO plan in alignment with Te Whatu Ora’s vision and guided by the KPTO Workbook.
- Actively engage with communities in Ōtautahi, Hakatere, Kaikōura, and Wharekauri, fostering meaningful connections.
- Improve and expand the capabilities of the KPTO service within the contracted areas.
- Spread positive and life-affirming messages to promote suicide prevention.
- Connect with and provide essential support to whānau affected by suicide.
- Work closely with internal and external partners to achieve better outcomes.
- Gather community feedback to continuously inform and enhance our services.
- Utilise online platforms for effective communication and awareness campaigns.
- Take the lead in organising events and new initiatives to promote key messaging and community involvement.
- Facilitate education and training workshops to empower the community and raise awareness.
- Provide scheduled reports as required to ensure transparency and accountability.
Skills and experience
- Proven experience in community engagement and project coordination.
- A real drive for suicide prevention and mental health advocacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to carry out initiatives and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with online platforms for communication and awareness campaigns.
- Full clean drivers’ licence
