Farm Hand/Research Coordinator

THE OPPORTUITY

Join Pāmu, New Zealand’s leader in sustainable and innovative farming, as our Research/Farm Hand, based at the Methane Facility located at St Kilda Farm north of Taupō.

Working closely with the Methane Facility Manager, you’ll help ensure the facility operates efficiently. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be actively involved in all aspects of farm operations, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of research projects
  • Operating and monitoring technology
  • Feeding out twice daily – with the tractor and mixer wagon
  • Undertaking and documenting daily equipment checks and data recording
  • Following animal welfare and health & safety protocols
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Representing Pāmu to visitors
  • Standing in for the Methane Facility Manager as required

This is a part-time position of 24 hours per week – three days per week (one of them always on a Wednesday) the rest are rostered in with the team to support operational requirements.

This is fixed-term until the end of January 2027.

THE METHANE FACILITY

Located on St Kilda Farm – about thirty minutes from Taupō, the methane barn is part of a research initiative that supports cutting-edge livestock breeding and emissions reduction work.

ABOUT YOU

You may have experience in farming, science or technology, but that’s not essential. What matters most is that you're practical, follow process and are reliable. You’ll be someone who enjoys hands-on work, is comfortable around animals, and is curious about how research and farming can work together.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • Attention to detail
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence

Preferred experience (but not required):

  • Familiarity with livestock data systems
  • Experience working with tractors and feeding out implements
