Process Engineering Technician – Plating and Backetch

Position Summary

The Process Engineering Technician supports the Process Engineering team in the setup, monitoring, optimization, and troubleshooting of the plating and backetch processes in a semiconductor manufacturing environment. The role focuses on process stability, yield improvement, experiment execution, data collection, tool support, and collaboration with engineering, production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day monitoring of plating and backetch process performance.
  • Assist Process Engineers in troubleshooting process excursions, abnormalities, and yield issues.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze process data to support root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Perform process checks, tool verifications, and basic qualification activities under engineering direction.
  • Support process setup, recipe verification, parameter tracking, and change implementation.
  • Participate in process trials, DOE support, and qualification runs for new materials, tools, or process conditions.
  • Document findings, action items, and updates clearly in reports, logs, and meeting notes.
  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering to resolve issues and support recovery actions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and cleanroom discipline requirements.
  • Assist in preparation of standard work, control plans, SOPs, and process documentation.
  • Escalate risks, abnormal conditions, and recurring issues to the Process Engineering team in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma, Technical Certificate or Undergraduate in Engineering, Electronics, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Applied Science, or related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or semiconductor environment is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor process flow; exposure to plating, wet process, or back-end process is an advantage.
  • Laboratory experience is an advantage
  • Ability to read and interpret data, trends, and technical instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and disciplined follow-up.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting plating, backetch, wet chemistry, or surface treatment processes.
  • Familiarity with SPC, basic statistical tools, and manufacturing control systems.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, or Pareto.
  • Experience with process documentation, tool checks, and qualification support.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a semiconductor manufacturing environment, including cleanroom and production areas.
  • Requires shifting support, occasional overlap with engineering/production activities, and response to process issues as needed.
