Introduction:

The Aga Khan University Hospital in addition to its five Hospitals creates access through its Outreach Services which include Clinical Laboratories, Outpatient Medical Centres, Pharmacy services, Home Health and other services. Outreach Services are designed to provide primary to secondary healthcare services to patients near their homes and are present in several cities across Pakistan. Outpatient Medical Centres offer a range of specialty clinics including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Cardiopulmonary, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Physiotherapy, and cater to children, adults, and elderly patients for general health checks or specific disease consultations.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

  • Prepares rooms by assembling all supplies required for the particular session before the clinic starts.
  • Measures and records vital signs of assigned patients (if required) and reports any abnormal findings to the registered nurse/doctor accordingly.
  • Conducts her/his assigned session / clinic accordingly, maintains smooth flow of clinic activity.
  • Performs preliminary eye screening examination e.g. lensometry, autorefractometry.
  • Assists ophthalmologist in performing laser treatment.
  • Ensure laser safety protocols are followed and report any adverse event in timely and legible manner.
  • Perform quarterly laser safety audit and take appropriate steps to close findings.
  • Performs manual Keratometry, and pachymetry.
  • Perform FOV, fundus photography and all diagnostic procedures after certification.
  • Administer eye drops according to protocol.
  • Perform A Scan and B Scan after certification from ophthalmologist.
  • Guides all surgical GA patients to pre-op anesthesia clinic.
  • Uses hospital equipment and supplies judiciously to ensure effective and economical use of the same as required.
  • Assists doctors while performing procedures and examinations.
  • Raises request slips, issues, receive and maintain CSSD and pharmacy floor stock items.
  • Raises Medical/ surgical supplier charging slip accordingly and handover to UR for charging.
  • Assists in data collection related to different unit based projects as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Explains waiting time to patients at the time of initial assessment and as need arises.
  • Ensures all equipment is cleaned prior clinic starts.
  • Initiates Clinical Pathways as assessed and record variances as identified.
  • Initiation of surgical documentation as appropriate.
  • Documents all discharge guidance and education provided to the patients.

Requirements:

You should have:

  • Intermediate (Science preferred)
  • Nursing technician training course at NES, AKUH or equivalent
  • Certification in
    • Basic Life Support
    • Intravenous Cannulation (as applicable)
    • Service Excellence
    • Facility Management & Safety
    • Safe Disclosure Policy Awareness
    • Workplace Harassment Policy Awareness
    • Personal Security Awareness (PSA)
  • Must be regular with >96% attendance
  • Keeps him/her-self well-groomed and always observes the unifofrm code
  • Ensure that nursing practices are in line with Institutional, Unit, Division and and Hospital policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates courtesy, tact and helpful attitude to patients and families
  • Always maintains good working relationships with peers and health team members
  • Willingness to work extra hours as and when required
