What’s in it for you:

Responsible for addressing safety and environmental procedures and implementations to ensure full compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Manage and improve environmental and safety procedures in order to achieve continuous and successful results in compliance with all the regulations.

Where is the work: This position will be located in Arecibo.

What you will do:

  • Supervise operators of the Water Treatment Plant, EHS Technicians and on-site Waste Contractors. Assign work plans and review compliance. Evaluate, analyze and implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Implements safety and environmental policies including procedures in compliance with Puerto Rico local and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), EPA, EQB, PRASA, Solid Waste Authority, regulations, DNR.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry environmental groups and programs.
  • Implement programs to train managers and employees in work site practices, waste management, wastewater treatment plants, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment, and other materials.
  • Maintains environmental files and records in accordance to government requirements.
  • Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.
  • Uses 9 Step Problem Solving process to analyze all environmental accidents in the facility.
  • Performs hazardous waste site investigations and develops a recommended action for management, which is in compliance with regulations.
  • Evaluates water chemical analysis data in primary and supportive plant systems to determine compliance with regulations.
  • Assess the environmental risk of activities and advise management on environmental impact.
  • Serves as company representative in a variety of inspection processes including OSHA, PROSHA, EPA, EQB, PRASA, and Fire Department.
  • Compiles and submits and environmental reports required by regulatory agencies such as EPA, EQB, PRASA.
  • Confers with departmental supervisors, manufacturing representatives, and regulatory agency staff to discuss problems, to develop tests to detect hazardous leaks, and to design plans to monitor equipment.
  • Ensure compliance of Waste Management Programs such as Hazardous Waste, Non Hazardous Waste Industrial and General Trash, Biohazard and Recycling. Ensure compliance and sign Hazardous Waste Manifests Reports. Assisting generators in all matters on wastes, including characterization, labeling, packaging, SAA compliance, HW Storage requirements. Identify, track and monitor waste throughout the facility. Ensuring that waste contractors have properly characterized the waste and have correctly packaged and labeled it before it is picked up. Monitor Waste Disposal Contractors. Signing all hazardous waste manifest shipping documents to an off-site facility. Tracking the waste from the time a disposal requisition is received to its final disposition in a treatment, storage, and disposal facility (TSDF) or other storage site. Maintaining all records regarding the waste as HW Manifest, Waste Characterization Profiles, Biennial Reports, RCRA Contingency Plans, and Exemption Reports among others. Make sure all departments that generate waste are properly training. Inspect the SAA and Final HW Storage [Main Accumulation Areas].
  • Performs other duties and projects assigned.
  • Maintain the work area clean and organized.
  • Support lean initiatives (5s, RIE’s, SQDIP, MDI, 9 step).
  • Comply with company policies and procedures, including EHS and ISO requirements.
  • Maintains environmental files and records in accordance with government requirements.

What you will bring:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Environmental Engineering) Minimum 5 years’ experience in EHS.

Master degree, preferably.

Experience leading small teams.

Computer knowledge (MS Office).

Advanced level of English and Spanish

Knowledge of EHS laws and regulations.

Excellent interpersonal skills. Presentation skills. Customer service oriented.

Annual Base Salary Range or Hourly Base Pay Range:

$61,908.33 - $85,820.00
