Software Development Engineer in Test

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is a software engineer who builds and owns the automated test systems, frameworks, and infrastructure that make fast, confident releases possible.

What You will Do:

• Design, build, and maintain the automated test suite and test infrastructure as production software:

– unit and component test guidance (with developers)

– API and service-level / integration tests

– end-to-end and UI tests

– contract tests for integrations

• Apply the same software engineering discipline to test code as to product code: code review, modular architecture, versioning, and documentation

• Act as the testing expert in defining the strategy for each product, together with the Tech Lead

• Integrate tests into the pipeline so they run automatically on every change

• Develop approaches for testing non-deterministic behavior:

  – conversational AI flows and intent handling

  – LLM/speech-based components (evaluation sets, regression baselines, tolerance-based assertions)

• Contribute directly to the product codebase where testability, instrumentation, or observability hooks are needed, rather than only requesting them

• Develop, own, and continuously improve the QA-related AI workflows, skills, and agents that plug into that practice

• Use AI coding assistants as a normal part of daily work to accelerate delivery:

  – generating and refactoring test code

  – expanding coverage across similar cases and edge conditions

  – migrating and consolidating legacy tests

  – producing test data and fixtures

  – triaging failures and summarizing root causes

• Cover non-functional aspects through automated tooling: performance and load on real-time paths, basic security testing, accessibility of Smartflow UIs

We are looking for candidates with:

• At least 5 years experience in a QA automation role

• Software engineering fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and system design held to the same bar as a Software Engineer, applied to test system

• Strong programming ability

  – TypeScript / JavaScript

  – comfortable reading and navigating application code (Node.js, React/Vue)

• Proven experience building an automated test suite from a low or fragmented baseline, and consolidating inconsistent existing tests

• Modern test automation frameworks experience (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Vitest/Jest, or equivalents)

• API testing and integration testing, including test data and mocking strategies experience

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into them (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)

• Hands-on with AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude, Copilot, Cursor) in real delivery work
