Shape networks that don't just connect — they sense, interpret and respond.
Ericsson is building the next generation of intelligent communication systems, and we need an expert to help define it. Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) sits at the intersection of telecommunications, radar and radio-based sensing, signal processing, AI and network architecture — an emerging market. If you have deep ISAC expertise and want to influence how future networks perceive and act on their environment, this is your next challenge.
About the team
You'll join the Early System & Concept Evaluation team within our Radio Access Network (RAN) system architecture organization. We analyse future requirements, design system architectures, build prototypes and prepare the concepts behind Ericsson's next generations of solutions. ISAC is a new business segment that adds functions and requirements to existing telecom architectures — and you'll work alongside RAN experts to define how sensing capabilities integrate into future networks.
About this opportunity
You'll transform ISAC from an emerging concept into coherent, deployable, commercially relevant system solutions. Working across RAN and radio systems, sensing workflows and measurement control, signal processing, sensor fusion, object detection and tracking, distributed processing, core and management networks, data and APIs, and customer-facing applications, your job is to define how these domains work together as one integrated solution.
What you will do
• Translate customer, business, use-case and regulatory needs into clear system requirements and technical priorities.
• Define ISAC system architectures and the changes required in existing RAN and core network structures.
• Develop system concepts and implementation proposals with RAN experts and other technology teams.
• Analyze interfaces, dependencies, operational requirements and design trade-offs across the full ISAC solution.
• Specify sensing workflow management and sensing measurement control.
• Shape solutions for distributed processing and multi-client exposure of sensing results.
• Identify technical gaps, risks and opportunities early, and drive consistent alignment across teams.
• Contribute to prototypes, technology evaluations and early product concepts, and establish scalable, reusable architectural principles.
• Interact with Product management to set requirements
• Interact with and guide 3GPP delegates
ISAC competence we're looking for
• Expert knowledge of Integrated Sensing and Communication, radar or radio-based sensing — ideally including monostatic/bistatic/multistatic sensing geometries and joint communication-and-sensing (JCAS) waveform considerations.
• Sensing systems depth: object detection, tracking, target measurement (range, Doppler, angle) and sensor fusion.
• Signal processing for sensing: detection and estimation, clutter and interference handling, and tracking filters.
• RAN and telecom system architecture, and how sensing functions map onto 5G/6G RAN and core structures.
• Practical experience in one or more of the following: sensing workflow management and measurement control, distributed processing and multi-client exposure of sensing results, data management and API-based system integration, antenna and array understanding and its consequences and link budget and coverage analysis.
• Turning complex business, customer, use-case and regulatory needs into system requirements.
• Strong systems thinking: seeing relationships across technical domains and communicating them clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
The challenges you will enjoy
This role suits someone who thrives when the solution doesn't exist yet. ISAC introduces new functions across both RAN and core networks, so success depends on understanding the complete system — not just one domain — and continuously weighing interfaces, performance, deployment and operational trade-offs. You'll be comfortable where requirements are evolving, standards are still forming, and technical direction is shaped through collaboration, analysis and experimentation.
Why it matters
ISAC is a significant evolution of wireless networks: future networks won't only connect people, devices and machines — they'll also sense and describe the world around them, enabling intelligent transportation, industrial automation, robotics, smart infrastructure, security and advanced positioning. Join now and you'll help define a technology area that is still being written — influencing the architectures, concepts and market approach Ericsson takes.
Is this you?
You're a recognized technical expert who moves confidently between strategy and detail, enjoys interdisciplinary problems, and influences decisions through insight rather than authority. You're comfortable challenging existing approaches, creating clarity in uncertainty, and you want to help define the future of intelligent networks.
Join Ericsson and help shape the networks that will not only communicate — but sense, understand and respond to the world around them.
