Engineer, Firmware Test (SSD)

The Engineer, Firmware Test supports SSD firmware verification and validation activities through structured test development, regression analysis, and defect investigation. This role contributes to firmware quality by developing test methods, analyzing failures, participating in code reviews, and collaborating with firmware engineers to improve code quality and product reliability. Working under guidance with increasing independence, the engineer supports enterprise SSD product development through disciplined execution, test automation, and effective cross-functional communication.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive firmware verification plans for SSD firmware features.
  • Execute white-box, grey-box, and system-level testing methods to verify and validate firmware functionality.
  • Analyze regression failures and perform structured root-cause analysis for firmware-related issues.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback that supports firmware quality and test coverage.
  • Collaborate with firmware development engineers to improve code quality and product reliability.
  • Communicate technical challenges, solutions, and mitigation plans to cross-functional stakeholders.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate documentation of test activities, findings, and validation results.
  • Support continuous improvement of firmware validation methodologies and test coverage.
  • Develop technical knowledge in SSD architecture, firmware testing, and storage technologies.

AI Responsibilities

  • Integrates AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality, or effectiveness, exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.
  • Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within one’s scope of work.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of experience in test development and validation (internship or academic project experience counts)

Technical Skills

  • Experience with software testing concepts including white-box, grey-box, black-box, boundary, and regression testing.
  • Python programming, scripting, debugging, and test framework development.
  • Firmware verification, validation, and regression testing techniques.
  • Git development flow and branch management.
  • Root-cause analysis and software defect investigation.
  • Basic understanding of storage protocols and technologies.

Soft Skills

  • Structured problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Cross-functional collaboration and teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of PCIe, NVMe, NVMe-MI, and OCP specifications.
  • Exposure to SSD products, storage systems, or firmware validation environments.
