Job Overview

The Senior R&D/Product Development Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of connector and cable assembly products throughout the product lifecycle. This individual will drive product development activities from concept and feasibility studies through design validation, product launch, and sustaining engineering, ensuring compliance with quality, reliability, performance, and cost objectives. The position requires strong technical expertise in mechanical design, hands-on problem solving, customer-facing technical support, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, enhancement, and maintenance of connector and cable assembly products throughout the product lifecycle.
• Translate customer requirements and Voice of Customer (VOC) into feasible engineering solutions and product designs.
• Develop product concepts, conduct feasibility studies, and drive design reviews to ensure technical and commercial viability.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, test plans, and design records.
• Manage product design changes and engineering change activities to support business and customer requirements.
• Conduct product testing, validation, failure analysis, and root cause investigations to ensure product performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with customers, sales, project managers, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to deliver successful product solutions.
• Support prototype development, customer trials, and hands-on engineering evaluations to resolve technical challenges and optimize designs.
• Drive problem-solving activities using structured methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, DFMEA, and other quality tools.
• Support manufacturing readiness, process capability studies, FAI approvals, deviation assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What your background should look like

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in product development, R&D, or design engineering within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong experience in product design and development, from concept through product launch and sustaining engineering.
• Experience in connector, cable assembly, or electromechanical product development is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in Creo or other 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX.
• FEA simulation skills is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with product testing, validation, prototyping, and engineering troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
• Experience with design documentation, engineering change management, and product lifecycle management processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and collaborate with global cross-functional teams and customers.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, plating, and automated assembly is preferred.
