Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Art History of the 19th Century

The Department of Art History and Music at Fordham University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the art of nineteenth century Europe and its global networks. The successful candidate will teach upper-level courses in their area of expertise as well as introductory art history survey courses – on the art of Europe, or Global art, depending on expertise. We especially welcome scholars whose research addresses the interconnectedness of cultures in the nineteenth century, and we will prioritize candidates who can use museums and galleries in New York City in their pedagogy. We welcome scholars whose work addresses interactions between Europe and other regions and who can offer courses in pre-20th-century American art. Position begins August 2027.

The art history program at Fordham spans two campuses in the Bronx and Lincoln Center, providing easy access for faculty and students to world-class cultural institutions. The successful candidate will be based at our Lincoln Center campus and will be strongly encouraged to work closely with other departments and programs at Fordham, such as American Studies, African and African American Studies (AAAS), the Latin American and Latino Studies Institute (LALSI), the Center for Jewish Studies, and the program in Fashion Studies.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a PhD in art history, be engaged in innovative research, and have an established track record as a classroom teacher. PhD expected by June 1, 2027.
