Job Focus
At the Louisiana Department of Education, we are seeking an Accountant 1, 2, or 3 to join Fiscal Operations – Appropriation Control as a Revenue Accountant. The Accountant is responsible for the preparation, classification, deposit, and reconciliation of financial transactions, fiscal reports, and other financial activities while ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
Candidates with the following skills and experiences are encouraged to apply:The candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and experience with LaGov (SAP).
Examples of duties
Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:
As an Accountant, you’ll help foster a spirit of teamwork while functioning as a Revenue Accountant. In this role, you will:
- Serve as the revenue liaison and primary point of contact for the receipt of funds.
- Prepare revenue financial transaction documents and coordinate agency reimbursement activities.
- Properly draw down federal grant funds and return funds, as applicable.
- Reconcile the general ledger to ensure accurate revenue and grant postings.
- Prepare fiscal reports, including the compilation and analysis of data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.
Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Work days are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Accountant 2 (AS-615)
Hourly: $23.14 – $40.53
Monthly: $4,010 – $7,025
Annually: $48,131 – $84,302
Accountant 3 (AS-617)*
*Hourly: $26.50 - $46.41
Monthly: $4,593 - $8,044
Annually: $55,120 - $96,533
Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Accountant series has a special entrance rate (SER) of $21.63 hourly, $3,749 monthly that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
