About This Position:

This position plays an important role in keeping Louisiana’s transportation technology safe, reliable, and connected. As part of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) team, you will help manage the systems and equipment that support real-time traffic monitoring, roadway communications, and transportation operations across the state. You will oversee the maintenance and repair of traffic cameras, message signs, roadway detection equipment, fiber optic networks, and wireline and wireless communication systems. Working closely with technicians, vendors, contractors, and other DOTD staff, you will troubleshoot issues, coordinate repairs, monitor system performance, and help implement new technologies. Your work will directly support the reliable operation of systems that are essential to DOTD employees and the traveling public.

Examples of duties

Four years of experience or training in the maintenance and/or repair of electronic, electrical, or telecommunications devices, components, networks, or systems; OR

An associate’s degree in electrical technology or electronic systems plus two years of experience or training in the maintenance and/or repair of electronic, electrical, or telecommunications devices, components, networks, or systems.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electrical technology or electronic systems will be credited as one year of experience.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Manage the maintenance and repair of ITS devices and infrastructure, including traffic cameras, radar and vehicle detectors, dynamic message signs, fiber optic networks, communication equipment, monitoring systems, backup power systems, and related facilities. Monitor system performance, coordinate repairs, maintain configuration information, and recommend improvements and new technologies.
  • Protect and manage DOTD’s fiber optic network by locating and marking underground cables, maintaining accurate documentation, and coordinating with contractors, consultants, permit holders, and Department staff to prevent damage and support fiber relocation, modification, repair, and installation activities.
  • Maintain statewide wireline and wireless communication systems supporting DOTD facilities, roadways, bridges, and staff. Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain telephone, network, cellular, radio, Wi-Fi, and other communication equipment while performing inspections, preventive maintenance, and system documentation.
  • Coordinate technical support and ITS operations by working with vendors, consultants, contractors, technicians, and Department staff to troubleshoot system issues, support the collection and delivery of real-time traffic video and data, provide technical assistance and training, and respond to emergency or disaster-related needs to help maintain continuous 24/7 operations.
